12/23/21 Baby A is 2nd Team All District Two Years In A Row?

I am proud to say that Mijo's hard work is recognized by his coaches and peers alike.  For the second year in a row, he has been selected to the 2021 All District 14-5A Division II Second Team.  It is really an accomplishment, considering he was injured and missed two games, early in the season, moved from the start of the season playing center, to moving over and playing the 2nd half of the season playing guard and even towards the end of the season spending time on defense playing defensive tackle/nose guard.  This boy loves playing in the trenches moving people around with brute strength.

The scariest feeling all season was game three when he hurt his shoulder but didn't say anything until the game finished.  Again, like in wrestling last weekend, we couldn't tell when it exactly happened, but I remember discussing with Wife that he wasn't looking like himself throughout the game, only to find out after that he was in a lot of pain but hid it so he wouldn't be benched.  The injury happened on a freak play, where he fell over sideways and the plastic in the shoulder pad that is supposed to protect him somehow stabbed him in the shoulder and bruised his AC joint.  the first doctor we saw took x-rays and said he was done for the season, now I realize that doctor had no clue what he was talking about, but he did suggest we see a specialist.  The specialist was like a shining light, where the first doctor said the bone was cracked where it starts which sounds like something that may never heal.  The specialist said that is all growth and not to worry about that.  He said the injury was just a bruised tendon and if he could take the pain he could go out there and play that night.  We waited a couple of weeks and he headed back into the field of play without any other incidents of injury.

Looking at the rest of the list, it is really an honor to be selected, most of the other kids on the list were from Liberty Hill, Marble Falls and McCallum which all went to the playoffs.  There were a few other Cougars on the list, but they were all skill players, the QB, receivers, DBs.  Mijo was the only lineman to make the list from the Cougars.  He was a little disappointed, he thought his good friend should have also been selected, I am just happy his hard work is recognized.  Congratulations Mijo, we're proud of you.
