3/31/18 Long Day To Get To My Folk's Home?

Friday was a long, testing but fun day to begin the Easter Holiday Weekend.  First of all, I worked last night, so I had to wait and finish my responsibilities before I could kick back and release a relaxing fart into my toilet.  My plan had been to sneak out an hour early but my honesty knows no bounds and even though I did not want to start a certain job, I thought there might be too much dead time at the end of my shift, so I went ahead and started a job for a new customer at 4:00am.  This took longer to prep than I anticipated and even though I finished running samples on our main tool right at 6:00am, I had to wait another 35 minutes for the other tool to finish.  At this point, I then need another ten minutes to put a proper bow on the job and call it fully prepped and ready for analysis, so I ended up staying probably 20-30 minutes longer than I planned, but I did owe them for going to my son's school activity the night before.
Wife had said to wake her when I got home, she was hankering to go spend money early so I was surprised when I got home and she was already up and almost ready to go.  We went to HEB, she needed to make sure we got all the supplies a certain hopping friend of Santa would need to be able to deliver his basket full of treasures.  This was followed by a stop at a local pan dulceria, a local store that specializes on Mexican pastries for my folks.  We then went to Taco Cabana as the last time we had brisket and egg tacos, I really loved them.  We tried going around Academy but once I ate and the fact that it was almost 10:30am, I just had no more juice in my tank.  We went home so I could get some sleep.  I pooped and showered, laid down for maybe an hour and woke up worried I had not done the bills.
I did the bills with Wife sitting there waking me up every few minutes, paying all the big necessary ones so nothing would be late, then finally got about three hours of sleep at once.  I guess when you are really tired you don't get up every hour or two to pee, because I managed to sleep the full three hours and I did not want to get up, but Wife said I better to cut my hair, or I risked being left behind and she would go eat with her family and come back to Austin and try again tomorrow to go down.  I cut my hair quickly and clumsily, if you were to see the first attempt, Wife corrected me here and there.
We met up with our in-laws and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary at a local restaurant which I really enjoyed.  The food was good, the restaurant was busy with activity, from ladies selling roses, to mariachis playing to photographers taking pictures everywhere.  We were done eating around 10:00 pm and luckily Wife is a solid driver.  I jumped in the car and hardly felt a thing as Wife drove Mr. Daisy home.  We got to my Mom's around 11:50pm, drank some coffee, and sat and talked for a bit before calling it a day.  Last thing I did was sit here and write this simple blog before falling asleep.

3/30/18 Family! Assemble!!

I feel like one of those 80s cartoons where finally all the pieces are here and we can transform into the super robot instead of me walking around like a busted foot all the time.  I am kind of demanding Boy to put his BS aside and hang with us for this weekend.  I believe he needs some space from his friends, they spent all last weekend in Dallas together, and they are there pretty much non-stop every weekend.
Wife has today off from school and so she showed up last night with some pizza and cupcakes and even a tea for me.  Nobody has confidence in me being able to drive to Crystal, so Wife is here to be the hero I deserve and she will drive us back and forth, I believe she has Monday off or she will just leave Monday morning as she has been doing the last few weeks.  I am kind of looking forward to going back to my Mom's, if only to try the new mattress in the new room.  I believe it'll be quieter, even growing up, I never wanted that room next to the bathroom, get a whiff of shit every time someone destroys it, and a nice steam "HEY!" every time someone showers, no thanks.
This will be the last weekend DD and his girlfriend are in the house, they have a move out date scheduled for Thursday, I have really enjoyed having him around, he fits right in with the boys and has only added positives to the house, although I had hoped he would naturally like working on the yard more, I would never push someone to do more than I do, and I do the bare minimum.  It got rough for a minute or two with our other tenant, but I think we crossed that hurdle and she is ok to stay for a while longer.  Like I say, while Wife is working away from home, I don't see why not have a room mate or two to help out and make sure Javalina isn't too lonely during the week.  Boy just runs weird hours, I don't expect him to do much for his younger brother.
Anyways, even though the boys know the truth about the Easter Bunny, I think Wife and I are going to create some magic this morning and help that rabbit deliver some magic Sunday morning.  The plan is to go buy it when I get home, Target opens at 7:00am, we believe.
This is the final push before school ends, we have roughly two months after this, so let's have some fun this weekend, grill it up and be safe Peeps.  Love y'all.

3/29/18 I Try My Best?

I honestly feel drained when I feel like I let someone down.  This week not only am I a little sick, but I am trying to get Javalina back to his normal boxing routine at least three times a week, he also had an Einstein Jr. Program at school last night which I am not sure why we went.  Things like this always make us rush lunch and everything else in between.  To add another layer of comedy, he tells me on the way I am supposed to provide a side dish, do I look like Betty Crocker?  I told him how about a case of waters, they just want something.  He is adamant.  No!  We can take a bag of chips but not waters.  Ok, so we stop at a CVS on the way and get some chips, you know we have to stand behind the big lady returning half a bag of chocolate candies from Valentine's Day.  I was just thinking eat the rest of the bag big girl, we know you bought them yourself.  After a manager was procured, she walked out with a fiver, I'm sure to make more bad decisions, and we paid and were on our way.  These slow slugs always slow me down, I don't have time for your stupid shit, Lady!
We get to the event and the boy wants to bolt like I'm dropping him off in the morning, I about grab him by the neck and say no.  Wait for me, I have no idea where to go.  He had some story that he was going to go help set up, even if we were the last people to show up.  We walk in around 6:05pm, no big deal, it is as disorganized as walking into a Walmart on black Friday.  Free food in the back, beaners at that age where they can't contain themselves, people attempting to talk in front but not wanting to offend the kids yelling and screaming in the back.  I made my way around and started reading the posterboards.  All the posterboards seemed to suggest they all decided to do it over atoms and compounds pre computers because the examples were pretty weak.  I was going to make the comment last night, (mostly because I enjoy Wife shitting on me) that Girlie asked me for help on a biology question and I was amazed at the awesome images of cells with electron microscopes.  Moving 3D images showing how exactly flagella work with their "9+2" structure.  So much has changed since I was learning from textbooks.
There was none of this anywhere, then I got to listen to a discussion had at the capitol anti the death penalty and how it is more expensive than keeping a prisoner alive until he dies naturally.  Fuck that, people that kill and act violently should be taken out with that prod they use on cow's.  That is NOT more expensive than 50 years of feeding and clothing and guarding troublemakers.
I asked Javalina where his stuff was to take a picture to show Mama, but he had no idea, like he didn't participate.  His grades don't indicate he is not missing anything, but he was way more interested in hanging outside with some of his buddies than trying to listen over the loud grumble of idiots talking.  The mariachi band played and they were good, but then they had the orchestra band play a number and they were really good, but those violins were not going to get past the jokes Johnny Idiot was laying down in the back with crackling laughter.  The whole thing pissed me off and we left before 7:00pm.  Right before we left one of these chuckleheads was laughing and talking and his eyes locked with mine and I told him to shut the fuck up, he seemed shocked like he had never been told to close his mouth.
I am only glad we fill the boy with plenty of science stuff at the house, I am not worried about his trajectory, maybe he can be the one that finally settles whether the earth is flat or a sphere, and if gravity is real.  Goddam stupid people.

3/28/18 Is The World Flat?

My time is pretty precious to me during the week.  I have to get home pick up the boy, take him to school, come home and try to sleep at least six hours then get up in the afternoon and repeat the sequence.  Yesterday morning, I was stopped solidly in my tracks by a couple of goobers spouting that the earth is flat and then they have their reasons.  I know this is crazy speak, but I decided to listen to them to see where they go with  such a big idea.
First off, they have to take everything we know and then have them throw it away as bogus.  Discredit our accomplishments of going to the moon, so all those pictures of the earth from space are just that, pictures.  And you know pictures can be photoshopped, so they can't be trusted.  I find it funny how these guys always have an agenda against our government.  The rovers going to Mars, "oh that is just an island over here."  My question to these guys is how come they all have crazy in their eyes when they try to explain their side?  What is in our own scientists to lie to us about what they find?
What would it matter if the planet is a sphere or a flat disk, why does this matter?  Before I listened to one of these guys there was another slightly different arguing with some atheists about gravity.  One of the atheists happened to be studying to become an aerospace engineer and the simpleton wants to discuss how come this and that about gravity.  She was being calm and going out of her way to explain as much as she could, but nope, it doesn't seem logical to the guy so it must be a hoax.  Satellites cannot exist simply because anything that hits them in space is going to destroy them.  He refused to listen to the fact that there are teams dedicated to keeping track of the debris in our space environment.
I feel sorry for these two kooks, but just because they couldn't pass a first year physics class does not mean that what happens outside your realm of understanding is a hoax.  The newspapers might have been set at a third grade level of reading to appeal to a bigger audience, but no where does it say that science has to do the same thing.  There were many things that I studied where I just shrugged and said good luck with that, I might not understand it, but it doesn't mean more capable and smarter people couldn't handle it.

3/27/18 Getting Sick, Slowly?

I was sure I was going to get it and here I am, sick.  I guess.  At what time do you declare yourself sick?  Can I keep telling myself it is just allergies and keep fighting?  The biggest issue I have right now is around my  eyes.  I feel like they are bloodshot, Sunday night, I didn't even fight Wife that much, I went to bed with her around 11:00pm and slept as much as I could, minus all the coughing and sneezing.  I then had to get up at 8:00am, take Javalina to school and I came right back to bed.  I slept all day with a big scoop of Nyquil.
I woke up, picked up the boy and fed him, but I was pretty useless during the day.  I showered and could not believe I was already running late to work, somehow.  I got to work and leaned against the wall, trying to die for a good hour.  I noticed a package we got from a customer that said "Explosive" if mixed with solvents and that kind of got my attention.  That allowed me to wake up a little clearer.
We haven't had samples like that before, and I don't think they pay me enough to mess with them.  I have pretty much stayed away from that side of the room, for now.
Going back to the big question though, am I sick?  I've had a runny nose for awhile, my eyes are killing me and periods where I am coughing and hacking like crazy, but that is not ongoing.  I feel like I could have a bit of a fever, but I am not burning up.  This is a long week for me, I work four nights, so I have to be a little tougher.  It doesn't help that we are supposed to go to Crystal City this weekend, so there will be plenty of road trip.  I am excited knowing we finally have a bed of our own to use, no wondering where I am going to sleep.  I think Wife and I fit on a Queen bed.
What do we do about Easter?  I explained to the boy about Santa and Easter Bunny and all that stuff just to make sure he wasn't the last sucker in class.  Do we still give them an easter basket with toys and stuff, like we 've been doing or do I get to save me some money now that the truth is out there?  I guess I can let Wife make that decision.  She said she was off on Friday, so she is driving up Thursday night, so she can drive me down Friday or Saturday, depending on what other activities her folks can come up with.

3/26/18 Wrinkle In TIme? (Movie)

Wife likes to run a  tight ship, without telling me, she got Boy to get us tickets to the movies for Friday night.  Before Boy got all dramatic with his stupid nail in the tire thing, he had handed me tickets for a 9:15pm movie start.  I thought "great!"  No way we make this, but thanks.  I didn't even talk to Wife until almost 6:00pm, saying she lost track of time, but she was on her way.  I told her I didn't think we would make the movie as it starts at 9:15, maybe if she could get out at her regular time, at least when she is driving to Austin, her regular time is 4:45pm that she is supposed to get out.  She very confidently said "I'll make it.  Just be ready."
I at least got most of the house in order.  I rode Boy all week to cut the grass in the front, and he finally did.  Javalina took out all the trash and helped here and there, bringing me the loads for the washer.  I eventually went upstairs, changed the sheets on the bed and it was only about 7:30pm.  I took a nap, well I sat down and accidentally fell asleep.  Next thing I know, Wife is already in the house, I hadn't even showered, said screw it and put on whatever shirt and we got to the movies with about 5 minutes to spare.
Wrinkle in Time is a beautiful movie the way it is shot, the vibrant colors they use on the actresses.  I thought the appearance of Oprah was OK, along with Mindy Kalling who I personally really love her acting and Reese Witherspoon who is also very good on her own.  The three star as the "lights", very old beings that exist in the universe, and they happen to hear a human calling, but he is not on earth, so they figure he has space traveled and is now lost.
Chris Pine plays the scientist/father who disappears, and the daughter must then head into her teen years without her father, which is hard, excluding all the BS of a mean girl meme at her school for no good reason.  I'm sure if they had spent a minute or two, the main mean girl is also her neighbor, so they must have been besties when they were little, but this is not explained.  There is a fight at school, which is barely resolved and then the lights show up to pick up the daughter, the son, and a neighbor boy who I guess has a crush on the girl.
They land on a planet which could still be earth but the flowers walk around and are alive.  The Reese Witherspoon character turns into a lettuce and they ride on her back to get to where some people might be.  They run into some darkness and they then explain in a very feeble attempt, more to tell us, the viewer, about how we are letting evil win by not saying anything when we see things.  It got a little preachy, the girl was a little whiny, she was clearly cute and the boy liked her, but she kept insisting that she was nothing and that gets annoying after awhile.
After awhile they find the dad, not before running into Michael Pena first who is the leader of the hate "thing".  The little brother is some sort of gifted seer and he is brilliant, typical of a Disney kid movie, cause I never met a kid who could properly wipe their ass and conquer the universe, but in the Disney world, every other kid can do anything.
I don't think it was as bad as the randow reviewers were laying it out at 1 star, but it did feel very clinical in that it was intended to teach us to be nicer to one another, which makes me go blechhh.

3/25/18 Daddy The Tool?

This blog exists because Boy is lazy and I went to fix his nail in his tire.  Anyways, I thought it would be a good idea if I got up super early and took care of something that can't be ignored for too long.  I know it should be Boy's responsibility and it should be on him to take care of this, but since he is gone until tomorrow evening, he won't have time during the weekend to fix it.  Because he is so busy during the week with classes, work and the internship, I decided I would pitch in, even though I know he should have done it early on Friday.
I usually go to the Discount Tire on I-35 and William Cannon, but Wife was all excited that she read I-35 was going to be closed all over the place, due to construction projects, so instead I went to the Discount Tire over on Slaughter Lane and Manchaca.  By the time I got there, I had to stand behind at least five other people and I probably got there before 9:00am.  A good 5 other cars were also started so it would be awhile.  Luckily, they had some free coffee and it was rather good.  I finished my first cup by the time I talked to the guy, but we went and looked at the car and it was the first time in a while that I paid any attention to the tread on the tires.  The rear driver side was in horrible shape, but the other two were almost in that dangerous zone too.  We had replaced one tire about 6 months ago, so we needed three more to get all new rubber all the way around.
The guy was actually cool, he offered the Goodyear tires as a set of 3 for $500.  $500 is my max credit for their card, but the Goodyear he was offering has 2 stars.  I told him I would do it if he made it the Pirelli tires 3 for $500.  The first tire I got last time was $200 by itself, so I was asking for a savings of over $100.  He checked this and that and said I had been a good customer, so he said "yeah, we can do that."  I know Wife also is getting close to needing new tires, but it's not like Boy's tires were going to get better by themselves.  Now I just need to pay off this $500 and then I can work on the next set for Wife.
The hard part now was that the guy said it would take 2-3 hours before they could install them, which I said no problem, I'll call my wife and she can come pick me up, probably have some breakfast.  I called and texted Wife about ten times, she never heard her phone, same with Javalina and even DD.  I texted Girlie who happened to be running errands in the area and she swung by and picked me up and dropped me off at the house.  we slept and did our husband and wife thing until Javalina came storming in that he was hungry.  We went and had lunch about 3:00pm at Chili's and it was actually very good although the three of us ended up with diarrhea.
We picked up Boy's car and now it looked weird to me with the new tires but super dirty body.  We napped until 7:00pm and took Boy's SUV to get some cheap pizza, but we stopped and washed it first at the local car wash.  I then dried it at home more carefully because even in the dark, I could see I missed a bunch of spots.  I'll give it another Passover in the morning and clean the rims then, that car would look awesome if he kept it clean, but he is such a lazy turd.
Oh well, it gives me good piece of mind that he is running around on good new rubber.  He does run around on I-35 every day whether to school or to work downtown.  Once again, Happy Birthday, love you Mijo.  Maybe you get some art for Christmas, but tires is an excellent birthday gift.

3/24/18 Boy's Birthday?

Boy up and grew up before our very eyes.  We could be sad that he doesn't really want to hang out with us, but he does still live at home and we do eat at least a couple meals together a week.  His birthday is today, the 24th, but he will be gone, to Dallas for a comic con or something nerdy to that effect.  I wouldn't be too gun ho about this, but they have managed to get attention and have now built two custom swords for sale to costumers.  The first one was in the $200 range, this second sword has three light sources and a lot of time went into building it, so they are asking for $400 or thereabouts.  So it is easy for him to say they are scouting for more work in that arena.
I am really pleased that even though he has not graduated he has been able to keep working with Alamo Drafthouse now for probably five years and according to him, they already love him at his new internship place.  He has shown a solid core of good habits.  I don't like him staying up late on the nights before he works, but he is young, he can probably handle things better on less sleep than me.  He dresses like a professional insisting on wearing a tie and long sleeve shirt, and takes his Oakley briefcase, the boy looks like a million bucks, even opting for leather shoes instead of tennis shoes.  Meanwhile, he says the CEO and CFO show up in shorts and muscle shirts, who knows how that is going to work out long term.  I tell him better to be overdressed than under dressed.
As far as his birthday, I guess we have to wait until Sunday to eat cake with him.  He asked for money so he could buy some print at the art store.  This boy better make money because he has expensive hobbies.  I would like to go get him a print, but I am afraid we would choose the wrong thing and disappoint him, but just giving him money seems so crass.
I was outside as they were leaving this afternoon (Friday) and his friend announced they have the low tire warning to which he said "Yeah, I went to Discount Tire and they said they didn't see anything, they just added some air and sent him off.  I said Bull shit, they don't just ignore you.  We didn't even try to look for the nail and we saw it, just looking towards the tire.  This all happened right around 6:30pm.  They ran to Firestone, but it was too late to get it done.  Good thing his friend just got a newer used car from his sister, which he said they could just go in it.
Here I am, Happy Birthday Mijo, I am awake at 8:42am, on my way to Discount Tire to get a nail removed and fixed from his tire when he should have been on top of this last week.  Oh well, we wouldn't be the great parents we are if we didn't go the extra mile.  Love you, Boy.

3/23/18 Paying The Price?

I mentioned last week making stone soup out of nothing.  Spring Break was enjoyable after it looking like it might suck without any extra money to go too far.  We visited with my folks and my in-laws and ran around trying a couple new places to eat, overall we had quite a bit of local fun.  Meanwhile, my dad had been real sick and Javalina has kind of been snotty all last week and he eventually missed school on Monday, just feeling weighed down by coughing and not resting enough.  I will admit I was terrific as if I was on the football field stiff arming my little nose tackle every time he came in for a hug.  "No, I don't want to get sick, you know I love you, go hug your mom."  Kind of joking, kind of not.  This just put off the inevitable.
I got lucky this week with a little Over Time on Sunday night, followed by working four nights, so it has actually been much longer than usual that I don't go back home to sleep in.  I used to think people that napped were just weaker humans as I never napped, never got sleepy during the day, even after 10 years on nights, it took a lot for me to wave the flag that I was tired, but I guess age and working nights finally caught up with me.  Lately, I can't wait for my days off, so I can nap the day away.  Anyways, I knew it would probably get me and I think it did.  I started getting a runny nose about Monday night and Tuesday and Wednesday I didn't sleep very well, waking up with a bit of a headache and so much congestion.
I've been telling myself allergies all winter long, but this is different, today I had some muscle soreness and just had to rip myself off the bed to go pick up my teenage responsibility.  Luckily, we had food at the house, I cooked a pork butt in the slow cooker, so we didn't have to run around after I got him, we just enjoyed some taquitos on corn tortillas.
I could have laid down and slept all afternoon, but I forced myself to the shower and out the door.  DD was sitting outside on the back of his truck playing his guitar, showing his coworker he knows how to play.  I had to joke if he was singing sweet nothings to his fellow friend there in my best country accent as the two are sitting there trying to out country each other.  I forget to notice how beautiful some days are.  I spend all my days sleeping, running around eating after school and running to work to go hide in sealed off rooms.  This is one of the main reasons I want a boat, to spend time outside, I know I used to enjoy that.
Maybe the knowledge that after tonight, I get the weekend off and my check will have some extra money from the OT is making me feel better, but the chills never completely got here.  I have like a sore neck but that is common sitting in front of these computers all the time.

3/22/18 Amazing Story Dad Just Threw At Me?

My folks were here this past weekend and my dad didn't do much of leaving the house, but he had been sick so I get if he just wanted to rest and take it easy.  Saturday morning when we were sitting around just drinking coffee and reading news and crap online, he started talking about one of his worst nights during his service in Vietnam.  Most of the time I gather things were under control, but this one night a group of black guys who were always joking around were put on patrol at night.  They were supposed to keep an eye at the surrounding environment and alert if they were being attacked or be the first line of defense perched up on the watch towers.  These guys were always high according to my dad, and because of this and their joking about, they seriously dropped the ball.
Sometime during the middle of the night, a small group of Vietcong came around and since the eyes and ears assigned weren't paying attention, they got on the grounds, and instead of doing any counter fighting the black guys fled, they just took off running.  In all the commotion, the small group of 20 or so Vietcong were able to get in and kill a few Americans who were not armed or were asleep.  My dad said he was standing about 5 or 10 feet from an American guy, he mentioned his name, as in he knew him, but the Vietcong blew him up with some type of ammo you would have shot at a tank with, a double deuce something or other.
They got a report over the speakers to go hide in the bunkers and eventually they bombed the entire area to clean up the mess.  In the morning, my dad said he was assigned to help pick up the pieces of the guy that was killed in front of him, all he said he could find in the area was fingers.  He said it felt disrespectful somehow to pick up parts from a dead person and put them in a box that was carrying grenades or mortars right before.
Dad said this messed him up because not only could it have been him, he was already switching gears to getting out of that hell.  He said that day he had 22 more days to go before being done with his service and coming home.  I asked what about the black guys, did they get any shit?  He said they were court martialed and locked up for abandoning their post.
I understand why he has never really talked about this time in his life, and this one quickie story made me drop my jaw.  These military guys really go through the worst of things, not only watching friends get killed, but then to have to clean them up or pick up their pieces seems like a hell I wouldn't wish on an enemy.

3/21/18 Bomber Is Dead?

CBS seems pretty pleased with itself as it has been reporting for a couple hours that they have gotten the bomb guy that has been terrorizing Austin for the past week and a half.  The story says they had the guy as a person of interest since yesterday.  My question is why did he not get picked up right away?
Energy Drink came waltzing in here to say hi and asked what was up?  Nothing much, other than they caught the idiot with the bombs.  Turns out., as we were expecting, he would be a white guy, he could not believe that someone on his team was totally the bad guy.  I told him, "Come on, this is white guy activity."  If it was some sort of thing involving stealing your car, maybe some rape involved, then yeah, it could be some sort of beaner.  Stupid killings where you get no monetary benefit from it, has to be a crazy white guy, although I agree, it could have been a middle eastern guy, but then he wouldn't have targeted black people in the first and second bombs.
I think he got tired of his shit and wanted to get caught, so he got sloppy.  But there are still questions that need to be answered.  If he was getting bombs mailed in, is there an outsider?  Did he have the materials laying about or did he have a friend in the military giving him detonation materials?
I don't trust that this is over, but if it is, then thank you, CIA, FBI, whoever still kicks ass in shit like this.  I think this type of activity took at least a handful of people, but it does seem like a lot of risk with hardly any reward in it for the doer and his accomplices.
I don't think the last bomb could have gotten any closer to my street than last night at Slaughter and Brodie.  Those are streets I take all the time, going to the mall or anywhere when we need something.  There might be a last second package or two, so let's all remain vigilant and not go back to our stupid routine with our heads up our asses.
I just heard he was 24 (8:10am), this pisses me off even more.  I have 2 24 year olds living in my house.  They barely get up on their own to go to work on time, how in the fuck did this 24 year old decide he knew well enough to take life from people?  Dumbfuck probably still had his mother washing the shit stains from his underwear and he wanted to act all manly.  What did you accomplish turd nugget?  Picture makes him look all sorts of white trashy with the bleached blonde hair, but I had thought he was in his 30's.  I always say, if you're going to kill people, start with yourself, point the gun at the person you hate the most (you) and poof, problem solved.  If you survive, the pain and disfigurement will help you realize you didn't have it that bad.  If you don't, even better.

3/20/18 Everyone Seemed Off Yesterday And Those Freaking Bombs?

The reason I like starting work a day early is to knock the webs out of my system before there are other people around to see you.  Last night felt like a regular night because I came in Sunday night, I still could have been more productive, but the work in front of me, sucked.  I say everyone seemed off because Javalina ended up staying home, it was the first time all year, other than the two misses for the funeral, Wife claimed, but the funeral was during the Christmas Break, oh yeah, he was supposed to have started the week we went to Crystal, like on a Wednesday.  It was a confusing Christmas break with AISD starting in the middle of the week.
Another strange fly buzzing about, is Wife who doesn't seem to want to go back.  I think she is ready to come back and live with us permanently.  The week before Spring Break she was here most every night, and this week she left Monday morning to La Pryor, came back to Austin, will be in San Antonio two days for workshops or something or other.  She may finally sleep on her new mattress on Thursday night.
I hate that there have now been 5 bomb explosions in the Austin area.  The best resolution would be that these a-holes accidentally bomb themselves.  They'll have some great reason for what they are doing of course, but come on, this ain't desert territory where the people just pray 5-10 times a day and walk around waiting to die.  We are busy here doing commerce, living, burning the earth's precious resources, acting like our shit don't stink.  Now I have to worry every time Boy orders a game from Japan, it might be the grim reaper in a box.  No sooner did I tell the young shithead to stop ordering packages for awhile than we get two new ones.  Of course Wife can't help herself, there she was with her claws about to pick them up and see who they were for.  I had to get ugly with her so she would stop.  Then she says "I just wanted to read the names."  I said why?  Did you order shit online?  No?  There you go, let those idiots sort it out.  You're gonna blow yourself up because you have to be a control freak?!  Boy is always confused, oh yeah, I ordered that like 3 months ago, and it just came.
I wish when they catch the assholes, the whole family got put in the same small hole in the ground and we could blow the whole group up.  The parents deserve it for creating such a great contribution to society, and the siblings, well, for not speaking up.  He will end up being some antisocial loner with a grudge for some misguided reason, ughhh.  Seems like this is happening all the time, where is that 2nd visit from Jesus already?  Come on Jesus, clean up on aisle all over the fucking place.

3/19/18 Spring Break Overall?

As I said last week, Spring Break came and went too fast.  I enjoyed most of it and I would say all except for those times when Wife tried to treat me like a child and tell me to go to sleep.  I am all for forcing me to sleep if we have plans or schedules to keep, but if neither of us had anything to do but wake up and eat, then shhhhh and let me do me.  I know she means well, but it is counterintuitive to tell a night-shifter to go to bed early, little secret she refuses to accept, after 20 years on nights, I am a little scared to sleep in a really dark room.  I sleep better with my light on besides the bed, even if I throw a towel over it, she needs total darkness, maybe those eye cover thingies would make a nice Christmas gift.
we ate Indian food for the first time and enjoyed it, Boy took us to one of his places, a Greek restaurant and we liked it.  We went back to Muchos Tacos on Manchaca and it was good again, I loved that they didn't skimp on the barbacoa, I had enough to make 3 and maybe even four good tacos from my one plate.  All our meals were pleasant and overall good.  Once we are up, Wife is my preferred companion, I just hate when she tells me "if you get up early, leave me alone."  I wish she would get up and drink coffee with me and sit at the table to look at the news or something.  Maybe I should force her to get up early, like she forces me to go to sleep early, hmmm???
We were able to find Wife an excellent deal on a bed so we stop having issues as where she will sleep, and even when I go, I will now have a bed I can call my own in my mother's house, so no more weird sleeping on the sofa, makes thinking about Easter coming up more bearable.
Speaking of family, we were able to visit my in-laws and my folks came up to Austin, so we saw both sets of parents.  I don't really want our renter DD leaving, but he'll be moving in with his girlfriend in a couple weeks, so the flood gate will be open and I am sure we will be seeing tons more of my sister and/or my brother who always whine "we would go, but there's no private bedrooms for us."  We shall see.
I love ending Spring Break working a little OT, I was contacted by the FIB people, which is what I used to do, back before I knew a job could be too great.  I will have a little extra money from the OT, and we can look forward to the last push before school lets out, I mean there's Easter, but it's not a huge break.  Considering we were a little broke and we didn't go too far, Spring Break was very nice overall.

3/18/18 Wife Will Dream A Little Better Dream?

I know that if the shoe was on other foot, I would have bought a bed at least as good as what we have at home, maybe even better because I am a whiny pain in the ass when I can help it, but Wife is the total opposite.  Wife would much rather sleep on the floor with some newspaper spread out for cushioning than spend a little money on her comfort, so this weekend, I did it for her.  She had been sleeping on a pull out sofa that has seen better days and her solution was to buy a foam cushion pillow topper to put on top of the old skinny mattress.  We saw what she wanted at Sam's and that was $150.  I suggested it would be better for her sleep if we just bought a cheap mattress set, which we did.  We found a great sale at the Mattress Firm stores.
This was not the only great find of today (Saturday), we started the day at the house around 10:00am with some coffee and pan dulce which is pretty standard when my folks come.  I was downstairs for about two hours, my mom said there was no real hurry or agenda, so I went up to wake Wife and maybe do a little grab-ass.  I jumped in bed and was probably out within a couple minutes.  Wife got up and was showering and putting on her make-up, so I didn't see too much of a waste of time.  She woke me as she was getting done, I did my thing, got dressed and we went to eat at Mucho Taco.  It was good, but what goes in must come out, usually in  a hurry.
My mom mentioned she had not slept well, with my Dad coughing all night, so when I came out from using the bathroom and feeling like it was nap time and seeing my Mom asleep, well I copied and jumped in my bed.  Wife had turned on the TV, I told her to let me sleep for 40 minutes and then we could go wherever.  My mom was surprised she fell asleep too, but it was all good.  We went and got the mattresses at this point.  Javalina got whiny that he wanted to go to the mall and my mom said she had a gift card to buy a purse, so we went.
I was very surprised to see so many changes in my mall.  The Godiva candy place was gone, the little old lady next to the Godiva place was gone.  My favorite new store has to be Keek's.  It is a purse store, specializing in Louis Vuitton and other high end bags.  The first thing I noticed was the price, which seemed to be about half of what I had seen at Dillard's, who is currently carrying a select few.  The girl said they were only selling used bags sold to them from the public.  They are only interested in buying your bag if it is free of defects.  I will certainly be buying here when the time is right.
We ended the night by eating at Cheddar's, not the best but it is ok.  There are not a lot of choices close to us after 10:00pm.  The rest of the evening was a blur, Wife took a shower and went to bed, my mom was in the living room watching some National Geographic documentary about hookers in Las Vegas, so that caught my attention.  I just remember waking at 2:00am and going to bed.

3/17/18 My Parents Visit?

It took awhile, but my folks finally made it over here.  When the week of Spring Break started, they were going to come up, but my dad had gotten sick.  There was a lot of back and forth, but it took a few trips to the doc, my dad finding out he had bronchitis, and some more meds, but finally my mom said not to worry about going down there and they would come up.
We woke up with not much to do until they showed up, Wife suggested to go and wash her car with a free birthday coupon.  It was supposed to take an hour or so, so we went and ate at Fuddrucker's.  This took a good hour and change, we came home immediately, and my folks showed up 10 minutes later after we arrived.  We all said our hellos and then we got going.  I really wanted to show my mom that art exhibit on Lamar with the Dr. Seuss stuff.  She liked it enough, but as we all said, everything was pricey.  Upon paying more attention to an image inspired by The Wizard of Oz, I found myself liking the gritty way Dorothy turned out as life chewed her up.  My mom said the Cowardly Lion was too wimpy and even made more effeminate with a bow on its hair.  Boy came in saying he liked it too, and we could get it by doing a 6 month layaway.  Maybe if I can string a series of OT nights I work.  I really want to have art that makes people think, not just pretty pictures on the wall.
Our next stop took us to Best Buy, my brother was looking for a new computer, although he was open to either a laptop or a desktop.  Boy got him to decide a desktop fitted his needs better and we soon found ourselves headed to Fry's as Boy said the selection would be much better.  It turns out there has been a run on laptops and desktops, there was very little selection left to choose.  My brother decided to hold up and wait on a new computer.  Before we left Fry's, I bought a couple plane magazines, I still think I would love to become a pilot someday, Wife keeps saying no.
Driving back on Lamar, we drove by Santorini Café which Boy said is the best Greek food in the city.  I don't know where he got that title "best" but I've had a bit of an open mind recently and everyone else was willing to give it a try.  The food was really good, Wife and I split a gyro and a lamb pizza and we had an appetizer with hummus, some fat bread that had the texture of tortilla.  The lady in charge seems to treat her customers as family, coming around to see how we were doing, rubbing Boy's back when we said he comes all the time and it was his suggestion, seemed to mutter, one of those good job Mijo, but in Greek.  We then drove all the way back on Lamar and First, stopping at a 24hr panaderia to get some pan dulce for the morning.
The night ended quietly, Mom, Javalina, and I talking about what we've been up to, Javalina "showing" grandma different ways we grab him and him throwing himself all over the living room.  It was a nice evening, let's see if we can match it or better it tomorrow.

3/16/18 Million Dollar Homes And Indian Food?

We would have almost been on our way to Crystal City today but my mom called to hold up and they would come visit us Friday through Sunday.  Instead of being in a rush today then, we got to sleep in and Boy spent the day with his best friend.  I got up around noon and had an awesome cup of coffee with a big slice of cinnamon roll.  Wife kind of talked me into buying a Target brand of coffee a couple days ago and I swear it is a flavor I have been looking for, for a long time.  It is just coffee flavored, but it is what I think coffee is supposed to taste like.  About the time I was done paying bills and drinking coffee, Boy and his friend came in and she filled me in on some of her drama which everyone says I eat drama up with a big spoon.  The story was alright and they left before I knew it to go eat or something.  Wife was moving so slow that they came back and she was barely coming downstairs.
I wanted to leave early but best we could do was leave the house by 4:30pm, I've been wanting to look at houses towards the lake.  I think we have seen most of the big communities along Hwy 71 and even 290.  This one was in Lakeway, we took 620 towards the lake from Hwy 71 and turned left on Flintrock Rd.  There were two giant beautiful white stone/stucco houses from different builders and they were both $1.2 million dollars.  I about choked on the price, but asked if we could look anyway.  A lot of the price has to be because of the views.  The balcony views just seem to reach out for miles.  Both salesmen promised that all of the houses in this community would have outstanding views.  These are probably the nicest homes we have seen, I left totally enamored.
We headed back to the city, but stopped at Best Buy, Javalina scammed Mama a little bit, claiming we didn't buy him anything special for making A/B Honor Roll.  He got a video game, I talked with Sprint about my phone plan, we have been with Sprint for 19 years and 4 months, I think we deserve a little break at this point, we are paying over $260 for three lines.
We ended the night by taking a risk, we ate at an Indian restaurant for the first time.  I didn't think I would like it, it was always described as hot, hotter and hottest, which just gives me diarrhea at the thought.  I told Wife it was her choice, it was a nice cool night and I felt relaxed.  We just happened to be by Tarka Indian Kitchen and she said how about there, I had always said no before, but I figured worst case scenario, we'll rush home to the bathroom.  I was pleasantly surprised, everything was delicious.  The curry tasted like peanut butter, the kabobs were great, even the na'an which is a bread was just like a chubby tortilla.  If anything, the plates were not very filling, we ordered a total of 5 meals to share between the three of us and an appetizer and Javalina was trying to take my meat from my plate after he finished his share.
Overall, this turned out to be another great, relaxing night.  It is 11:30pm and we are both thinking a nice piece of cake would be nice right about now.

3/15/18 Making The Proverbial Stone Soup Out Of This Shitty TIme Right Now?

I keep wanting to be disappointed that we can't afford to go anywhere like in past years when we would go to Corpus Christi for the week or even to Flroida, even when we think it could be cheap if we only went to 1 or 2 of the big parks.  But in reality, we are doing what we can with what we got.  Today seemed to be a nothing day, our only goal was to get our Husky Javalina back from visiting his grandparents in San Antonio for a couple days.  It was nice to have him away from us for a couple nights, although since Mama is usually gone, I don't like it as much as in years past.
Anyways, before we get to picking him up, I guess I can dedicate a couple sentences here for Wife's cousin, who showed up late last night at our house.  She had called Wife and asked if she could stay at our house, she was going to something at SXSW there in downtown Austin and didn't want the hassle of driving back to San Antonio maybe even a little buzzed.  She showed up sober as could be and the friend's she was meeting up with had a B&B they were staying at, all the way from Peru.  We see her about once a year, so it was nice to see her, and we stayed up talking with her until almost 5:00am.  It's weird that I remember this particular girl since kinder.  It seems she was always in my classes, so even though she is Wife's cousin, I feel like I have known her since I was little too.
She was able to sleep in Javalina's room and bed, since he wasn't around, so that worked out easy, and she was gone early before we got up.  I vaguely remember Wife trying to get me up at noon, saying our son was already at the outlet mall in San Marcos and he needed us to hurry to get him, he didn't want to be involved with all the shopping his aunt was doing.  I got up eventually, and took a slow shower and we were on our way.
We got there and joined them walking like slow feeding cows from one store to another.  The best part of the day is that it was finally a beautiful warm day.  The sun hitting us on our skin felt awesome without it being annoying and hot.  Right as we were about to leave, my sister in law went into a store and I saw a watch store next door, so I went over there.  It was the Movado store, but they also had Coach, Lacoste, and a couple other brands.  Javalina has been wanting a green watch and I found one in the Lacoste group.  It was by a sign saying $76, but luckily it was an even cheaper $56.  I couldn't say no, Javalina gave me a little crap, saying he wanted to wait for a Rolex.  I seemed to get the ball rolling, as my sister in law and nephew both got watches after I did.
We finished the afternoon by going to Olive Garden, which I usually think is just meh, but Wife had $40 in gift certificates.

3/14/18 Smelling What Could Become My Next Obsession?

It has been awhile since I was around something interesting to me.  Today, I found something that intrigued me.  Well, found is a bit much.  Boy had told us about a gallery showing prints and artwork inspired and done by Dr. Seuss.  This gallery was 3-4 times bigger than the Mondo Gallery where we saw the Batman prints on Sunday.  We went in leaning to the right most side of the gallery and the art on the wall was big and colorful, but not anything that interested us too much.  In one of the "rooms", there was a series of cowgirls which had a sexiness about them, even as they held out rifles and assorted handguns.  If I had a smoking room in the house or a dark den where I displayed guns, these would have been perfect.
Towards the back of the museum, there were like masks that looked like robot faces and a couple of prints and books labeling them as different "AlphaBots".  One had a piglike face, so obviously, his name was Pigbot, another looked like a square faced robot, I guessed correctly, Squarebot.  They were interesting and a thing all their own, but the set would require a wall dedicated to the whole freaky genre, and I can't say we collect anything weird or leaning to the macabre.  If I have a look I want to lean to, it would be the female form.  There is nothing better on this planet than the curves on a woman to look at, fuck a Ferrari, I'd rather have a big curvy female ass to stare at.
Anyways, we finally made it over to the other side of the gallery and the Dr. Seuss stuff was really awesome and really expensive.  Most of the printed art was over $1000, and really the average price seemed to be closer to $5000.  There were a few faces of the weird animals from the Seuss world, like the lorax and those were going for as much as $25,000.  I had gone in thinking we were going to buy something, but the prices were just too much for us.
There was an interesting small-ish "room" towards the back and it was full of Salvador Dali stuff.  Most of them were related to The Divine Comedy which Javalina is currently kind of obsessed with.  We decided we at least need to go back with our husky boy as he would love these.  Wife said maybe even let him choose a print, but most of them were going for $595, even framed, that is a bit steep.
Finally, there was a hallway full of Disney and Muppet prints in overly bright colors.  We were confused a bit because they had prints next to paintings and the painting might be $1800, yet the print would be listed at only $150.  We may end up becoming loyal customers to this store, specially the Dali stuff, which I have loved since I was in high school and Boy keeps pushing us further into the arts.  Before that happens though, we need to get out of our little debt situation and learn to buy stuff like this with cash and not charge stuff like this.  It'll be hard, but at least I am getting a vision of what our house will look like in a couple years.

3/13/18 Spring Break Monday?

It was nice of Javalina to take charge last night and write my blog.  He often says he wants to start one and maybe one day we will let him do it.  Today started a little iffy, I was unsure as to the direction of the day.  My mom had suggested it might be better for me to go down there to visit, but it would have been without Boy and Wife was saying she might drop me off but would come back as she wants to spend time in her house.  I was stuck between either my parents coming up, if my father wasn't deemed too sick by the doctor or going down there, and probably catching whatever they have going around.  I called my mom around noon and she said he was sick enough to need three different medicines, but that they would come up Wednesday, my mom seemed to understand Wife wanting to be home with her boys.
The only thing different is that Javalina was going to visit his other grandparents after my folks left on Wednesday or we came back from Crystal City, but since my folks decided they would come up Wednesday, he figured he could still go hang out with his other cousins today and come back Wednesday.  We still took it easy all day and didn't leave to SA until like 4:30pm.  It should have been easy enough to get to a boat dealership in New Braunfels before 5:30pm, but of course, traffic at that hour tends to suck and we lost enough time that it was already 6:00pm by the time we got to the exit and we stopped but the workers were all pretty much leaving.  I walked around quickly and looked, I really want a boat, but I still can't pull the trigger, I need probably another year before I can do it, maybe even more time.  I still like to look, as I haven't decided what kind of boat to get.
We got to my in-law's house, I ate a piece of birthday cake, pee'd, and pretty much turned around and headed back.  One of Wife's sisters was there waiting on Javalina, my in-lws had gone to buy a new stove, they were on their way but we managed to get out the door before we got caught up having to chit chat more with them.  We saw them coming down the street as we left and Wife gave them a toot on the horn.  We then swung by Bass Pro Shops to look at the boats there, which sells the same brands of boats as that other dealership we missed.  Wife and I hung there for about half an hour then we left.
We got back to Austin, picked up Boy and had a late-ish dinner at IHOP.  Boy has us all interested in "art" now, there are all sorts of museums here apparently, and he is investing his money on prints.  He bought a couple of prints from the monster group a couple months ago, he got us a Mummy poster, then we bought a Batman one a couple days ago and we had about 7 prints from our times when we have gone to Disney.  The plan now is to fill the walls with all sorts of images from movies and things we love.  He says there is a show right now at one of the museums he goes to that is showing Dr. Seuss prints, so I think we have to go and buy something.  I tell you I love the big city.

3/12/18 Javalina's big moment?

So from the title I presume you think it's Mando writing but you're wrong.  It is me Javalina writing I don't know why I'm writing but yeah. So let's start with our day I woke up around 8:00am so I was pretty tired but I got and saw Big mando. on his computer I don't know what he was doing we waited a while just talking and I went back up to wake mom and we made some awesome  bean and chorizo tacos. And it was delicious it had some beans from a bbq yesterday and I just got to say it was good. Then we sat around but like a sudden thunder roar everyone is saying "GET READY GET READY" I was confused so I go and ask what's going on and my parents looked at me as if I was a stranger asking them for their baby, and they said we're going to an art gallery so in my head I'm thinking a complete room of snobby people that are French, and white people and berets on everyone. But we go downtown and I'm thinkin oh hell yeah this is gonna be so fancy but we take a couple turns and what I see is just so ghetto spray painting on the house's and I'm thinkin yeah nope but we get off. We walk a little bit and we stop in this really small place and I'm thinkin ok this is a joke, but we walk in and there's paintings (Just for the people that's wondering what it was it was batman) and my brother is going all "omg I need all these posters" and I'm thinkin "why do you need all these posters?" but you can't question the oldest.  We walk in and we see some older men and some 20 something year olds but I was mad because there were no berets, we bought 2 pictures and we already had a frame to hang one up so we need another frame.
Around nighttime dirty dog and his gf came out and then we were making pizzas a couple minutes pass by and DD come's out with his guitar and he is making little songs and there and all sudden it becomes a karaoke and were singing and dancing even I dabbled in a little bit of dancing and I just want to say I was like a newborn baby trying to skate it didn't work. But like everything it came to a stop and as my dad puts everything away all I can say is it was a good night.

Javalina wanted to take a stab at writing a blog to see how easy/hard it is.  He said it was pretty simple, as he just recounted the day.  He did pretty good, I didn't realize we startled him so much when we got ready to leave the house, but if he got off his video games, he would know what is going on with the rest of us in the house.

3/11/18 Father-In-Law's Birthday?

We went to San Antonio to celebrate with my Father-in-Law his 75th birthday party.  They kept it simple and delicious, as usual.  They have a love affair with the brisket but luckily, I love me a good cut of brisket.  My younger sister in law's boyfriend loves cooking them for some reason and it seems he cooks one every day, or at least it seems that way as they always seem to have brisket ready to serve when we go down there.
We arrived around 2:00-2:30pm and the brisket and sausages were just getting cut.  There was also a tray of shortribs and I had a couple of those before I even took my shoes off.  It seems they were waiting for us to eat, because as soon as we arrived they told me to serve myself a tray and go sit to eat.  I grabbed my drink as is customary over there, and Wife served me a big ole plate of Texas love.  Meat and potato salad, rice and beans, with some avocado and salsa to put in the tacos.  Few restaurants can compete with these ladies, honestly, everything is always so good.
My father in law was in good spirits and even conversing at the table about school this and that as Wife tends to talk about work all the time.  She told a couple of funnier (now) stories of losing their hotels in Houston and other shenanigans that happen at work.  It was real nice, not even having to get up as we finished eating and talking, they cleaned up around us and brought out coffee and the birthday cake, more tea, everything to make us comfortable.  It was nice that we waited just long enough to get Boy to join us, so all of us were there.
My older sister in law thought it would be funny to recreate pictures as people have ben doing on Facebook and other picture sites.  There was a pic with Wife being a baby sitting on her dad's lap, sister in law on mama's lap, my brother in law playing in between and my mother in law expecting the youngest sister.  They did an interpretation of the pic, but Wife would break his old leg, so she sat on a small stool.  They had fun doing this and perhaps a couple other pics as I laid down and fell half asleep on the sofa.  I did look through the album and was impressed at how "hot" Wife looked in high school, so tiny and sexy, specially standing next to my cow ass, even back then.  Today, I see her as my whole life.  I would be incomplete without what she has added to my life, but back then she was a little Hottie.
Before I knew it, my younger sister-in-law scampered off to another party, and my brother-in-law and his family left because they were on their way to Dallas or something.  This gave us our exit point and Wife took some leftovers and we got going.  I tried staying awake with Wife in the car, but I barely made it to 1604 before I zoned out.  Next thing I knew we were in San Marcos and I woke wanting an ice cream cone, Wife pulled off the highway but we missed the Dairy Queen.  We then continued to Austin and stopped at Sonic.  I got a small cone which got me farting just as we walked in the door to our house and helped me poop and shower before 8:30pm.
It is nice to be home early, Boy is studying, Javalina is quiet in his room, and we are downstairs, me typing, and Wife watching some Mexican on TV.

3/10/18 Friday Chores?

I started Spring Break a day before my peeps and all I get from that is I get to do a bunch of chores by myself.  Wife was here most of the week, she drove down Monday morning to La Pryor, came back at night so she could attend a couple of field trips with Javalina on Tuesday, went back Wednesday for the daddy/daughter dance, came back to San Antonio Thursday and back to Austin Thursday afternoon, and then back to La Pryor Friday morning and back to Austin Friday night.  She is a maniac.
I went with her Thursday afternoon and we bought a ceiling fan for one of my renter's rooms.  The fan in there was as old as the house and I guess it finally gave out.  It took me about two hours Friday morning but it is done.  I am more surprised that I broke the old fan down to fit in the box so I could throw it away.  Usually, I am good at doing the work, but cleaning up after myself is my weakness.  I was done with the fan by 10:00am.
I then went to the bank and deposited the rent money they had given me.  This was followed by a quick trip to Home Depot.  Boy gave me a poster awhile back, he has gotten into wanting "art" on the wall and his room is filled, this is the reason he wanted directional lighting in his room to point at the specific artwork.  We started hanging those, but we went a little crooked, his nerd friends made fun that it wasn't done better, so we stopped.  But because of this, we now have like 5 prints we bought at Disney, and the one he gave me all needing attention, so I got the proper hangers, moved some other stuff on the walls around and I think what I did looks alright.
At this point it was closer to 1:30pm, I took an hour nap and woke to continue putting away all the clothes I stayed up until 4:00am washing.  This took me to almost 3:20pm.  I took my tools to the garage and heard DD outside working on his truck.  I went out there, it was a beautiful day, I loved the cool breeze blowing and kind of hung out, before I knew it, it was time to go get Javalina from school, we ate at Whataburger, came back home.  He squirmed out of boxing class with "it's the start of Spring Break!"  I like going on Tuesdays and Thursdays to watch, there's a couple of big butt girls in there to enjoy watching, but on Fridays it is mostly kids.
We hung out at the house until 7:20pm, Boy came home, my renters were in and out, then Wife finally showed up.  I like my house like this, very busy and full of life, my folks think I have too many people living here.  Caught up with Wife, although it felt like she was here all week, and we ended the night with some Popeye's Chicken and watching a couple of our shows.
I believe we fell asleep in the living room, Boy woke us, we went upstairs, but we were too tired to do anything.  I wanted to make some sweet loving and I was in my birthday suit, but I got as far as stripping Wife, she snarled at me about being tired, and I fell asleep hugging her.  I got all week to get it!

3/9/18 The Quilted Stiffer Picker Upper?

I had said I was done reading Bukowski's last book I bought a couple days ago, but I actually just read the last short story and it was interesting in that it doesn't follow the pattern of his other works.  He is being hunted by his blanket.  I will try to do an homage to this story.
I have noticed for some time I have not been sleeping well.  Everyone around me tells me it is because I am on night shift, or it is because I am overweight, maybe my thyroid is giving me more problems than I care to admit.  Well, I know I have made a mockery of the religious and people who believe things based on faith, but I am in the middle of my own unexplained problem and it is time I shed some light upon it, see of anyone cares to believe me.  I believe my quilt is using me to get extra human power.  I am not sure what purpose this is for, but it is probably mine and Wife's fault for being sloppy.
I must admit, the further this goes on, the worse I am getting.  I never know if I am fully awake, or in the middle of a dream sequence.  I'll catch myself thinking if I sit on the edge of the bed, I will stay awake, but a few times I have fallen over and I'll awake startled thinking I am falling all the way to the floor.  Conversely, I do the opposite, where I decide I will lay down to sleep, but then I find myself tossing and turning.
The quilt though, you wonder?  It started accidentally, it was on the bed kind of between Wife and I as we did our loving and it caught my love juices once or twice.  I think that is what gave it the strength to come to life.  A few times recently though, I am thinking I am asleep and the quilt is gathered around my body and I feel like a woman's legs are around me, and before I can control myself I feel my body being squeezed and played with and before I know it, ughhh, I release all over the freaking quilt.  I cannot believe that is of my own doing, I want to think I am in more control of myself.  But the quilt, that quilt is just getting stronger with every story of deception and trick it gets off of me.
I mean this could all be in my head, right?  Maybe the quilt is just an innocent piece of cloth that seems to be getting "stronger" because I keep using it as target practice and it is getting stiffer with every "delivery".  Maybe I am asleep and it is in my own head that someone is writhing around on top of me, I call it a win either way, as long as I don't have to use my hands.
Unlike in Bukowski's short story, I am not giving this blanket to anyone, whether a beloved family member or a pain in the ass neighbor, so if it is getting shot to show it was alive, it will have to be me, as of yet it seems harmless and if I am correct, it seems to only want to pleasure me, so fuck yeah.

3/8/18 Anticipation?

It is Thursday morning and I start my Spring Break in about 20-30 minutes, it has been a long hard night trying to tie all my little jobs up to walk out the door not worried about anything.  It seems like every time there is a big vacation, we look forward to it with so much anticipation, like a kid waiting for Christmas, it's all we can talk about, then poof, it's gone in the blink of an eye.  Even with a couple extra days in the front end, I know it'll be gone before we know it.
I don't know that we have any real plans other than my folks coming up for about four days.  They give me a lot of crap about visiting Crystal City, but the truth is that if I do, then they don't have much of an excuse to get out and come on, anyone knows that the big cities have the good stuff.  First off, if you want to go to the movies, you pretty much have to go to a neighboring town down there, the Crystal City movie theater has seen better days.  Unless you want Pizza Hut or Golden Chick, prepare for some very mediocre Mexican dining.  My mom keeps insisting that a couple places that they take us are good, but I didn't get to 400 pounds by eating what others told me was good.  I know.
Hopefully, we can go to Fiesta Texas on a nice cool day.  We all bought season tickets that I believe we pay for the rest of our lives, or something, but as long as we use them a couple times a year, I guess it's fine.  Wife was getting the idea of taking a drive to Oklahoma, just because and let my dad have some fun at a real casino while we lounge around the hotel, but my mom didn't think it would be a good thing for the old man.  We could also head to Louisiana and drop him off at a casino over there while we explore and do some shopping/sightseeing.
I joked with Wife about maybe going camping in a tent and at first it was a big no, then she thought about it and asked if we even had a tent.  It just so happens there is a tent in the garage, not sure when we bought it, but I've seen it.  The idea is a bit romantic, dropping off Javalina at his other grandma, Boy would not want any part of this, just Wife and I, but sleeping on the ground is a real reality and we are both too big to be doing stupid shit like that, so probably not.
It would be something at this point if we could even make it into the Hot tub, it has been over a year, thanks to my shitty leg injury, maybe it's time to crank her on, see what happens.  I miss those parties we used to have in there, so many boobs.

3/7/18 Tales Of Ordinary Madness? (Book)

I know I have fallen behind, but at least I am reading again.  I meant to read at least twelve books, which would be about one a month, and it being March, it is going to get harder to do as time marches along.  Anyway, probably six months ago, we went to Half Price Books and I was lucky enough to find about four books of the great Charles Bukowski, a German American poet who I have been following for at least three years.  I love the way he writes, dirty and natural.  From his point of view he does no wrong, just takes care of his animal cravings.  From the perspective of the women around him, he is kind of a rapist, and he would have a  hard time fitting in to the modern era with its #MeToo movement and other assorted challenges for a confirmed "Dirty Old Man."
This book, again, like the last one, is a collection of stories that seem to be about him, more or less, being told maybe out of order, but I believe he is simply writing about his life.  There are too many stories about horse racing to not be the case.  He still likes being called Chinaski, as he is referred to in one of the small stories.  This was a fake name he carried all the way through his Post Office book.  The ones that catch my attention is when he basically "rapes" any woman he meets.  In one of the stories, he is hanging with a friend and asks him if he knows any women.  The friend says yes, they go over and Bukowski slithers his was way over to the girl and with other people sitting in the living room, he is already sticking his mouth under her skirt.  She finds this behavior intriguing, runs off the other companions, but then Bukowski has a change of mind and decides he would rather drink.  While trying to get drunker, he tells her he is going to go in the back door, which offends her.
A lot of the stories are get togethers with other poets and discussing who is the best of their time.  It is interesting that Hemingway and others come up, but within his small circle, he is usually labeled the genius of the group.  This book started out slow, but then at a certain point, I took off and was able to get through it in less than a week.  Some of the stuff he writes about might be frowned upon in modern society, I just find it interesting that this man does not seem to mind discussing taboo stuff
It has been really hard to find time to read, with the phone always having new pictures on Snapchat, or new words to spell on WWF, but I think in the long run, reading will be more beneficial as it is a form of inputting thoughts in my head.  I have to go home and pick out a new book to start reading.

3/6/18 Dreaming Of A New Truck?

I absolutely know I cannot afford a new or even used vehicle right now, but that doesn't mean I can't go look at them.  Specially on a Sunday when no salesmen are around to push you into a bad decision.  We didn't have much going on today (sunday), so Wife wanted to go check out where Javalina was having his talk with his class and a representative from the Capitol.  After this, we headed over to locate the PAC, this is where his band is performing Tuesday afternoon by where the old Airport used to be.  It was an extremely beautiful day, we ate subs from Which 'Wich and even sat outside for a minute or two.  I told Wife if she wanted to hang out outside, we could go walk around Maxwell Ford for a bit.  She rolled her eyes at me but said fine.
I am ok with driving the Excursion, but it is getting old.  We bought it in 2004, but it still only has 150,000 miles or so.  So, on the one hand, it is 14 years old, but it also has never had any real problems and I love that it is a giant.  Wife tells me I should be thinking of buying a Kia Soul like hers.  Uhh, I will agree that it is a cute car and it matches her perfectly, but she could be making twice my salary one day, bullshit she's going to choose my vehicle for me.  I will consider another F-250, maybe an Expedition, or even an Explorer.  I do like the Flex, but I would have to drive one before I agree to such a small vehicle.
So we parked over by the used vehicles and they had plenty of used Explorers, some loaded with leather and sunroofs and even 4x4 for around $35000.  With only 20,000-30,000 miles, they are still practically brand new.  I really liked the idea of one of these as I am not sure if we will continue with the RV lifestyle currently.  Boy doesn't care anymore and Javalina has never been a fan of leaving the house, plus I really want to consider buying a condo/vacation place that is permanent.  Anyways, I had to glance at the tiny cars that they always have a couple of, this time it was a BMW Z4 but not a convertible, and a Nissan something or other 2-seater that because it was a 2008, it was on sale for $10,799.  I want a tiny convertible, but everyone makes fun of me cause I am a full sized cow.
Next, was the trucks, ever since I bought the 2008 in 2010, I am a fan of buying used but almost new.  Loaded trucks with all the bells and whistles for a steep discount is something I can dig.  The best looking truck was an F-150 though, just beautiful and looked expensive, but it was a 2011 and was going for $26,000.  I would have been happy to have taken that truck.
I couldn't help myself but go and look at the new trucks.  They had two black F-250s, one had patches and stuff indicating it was a "Black-ops" special edition and the other was just a standard black Lariat F-250.  They must have been lifted a foot taller than normal, I could barely look into the cabin.  I would give my left testicle for one of these beauties, but they were both above $70,000.  Grrr, I need to win the lottery or something.

3/5/18 Maze Runner? (movie, 2014)

Recently, we saw previews for the 3rd installment of Maze Runner and it looked good.  I told Wife and she said we should see parts 1 and 2 before we watch the third one.  Thanks to the magic of DVRs and Netflix wife quickly said she had all three available for viewing.  We didn't have much going on this weekend and since we went to the movies on Friday night, Saturday, we stayed in.  We went to Central Market and got a bunch of overpriced foods to eat, it was payday Friday and we figured it was still cheaper than going out to eat.
The first Maze Runner was in a word, crappy.  The kid wakes up in an elevator and pops up in the middle of a field, great for the initial suspense, but for us that haven't read the books, we need a little filler as to what or why these kids are getting put in the maze.  We didn't get the explanation until almost the last ten minutes and by then I barely cared.  There was one kid we were rooting for to survive and of course, they had to kill his fat little ass.  Chuck did not fit the mold of the other kids who all looked like they could be "runners" and at least five years older.  With his curly hair and chubby physique, I joked to Javalina, "look your twin."  He said "shut up, you know a fat kid isn't going to make it to the end of the movie."  I joked yeah, he reminded us of Piggy from Lord of the Flies, which he and Wife said the movie seemed like.  I agreed, but that still didn't say why they were there in the middle of a maze.  Add to that the foreshadowing of him giving the little carving to Thomas to give to his parents and we could tell he wouldn't make it.  It was a senseless way to kill him too, I mean an errant shot with the escape door right there and the light of freedom coming through, come on, that was so much bullshit.  I guess he was too young to see him make it through the next level, whatever.
Then there is the whole thing of the maze, that would be like a two billion dollar project, somebody would have to be financing that while the world around them is dying of a freak virus.  Why erase their minds and not tell them anything about the maze?  It obviously wasn't working as the kids were perfectly comfortable staying in the open field and sending the faster kids into the maze.  Thomas wasn't like them, so as scientists, they were changing the mice they were putting in the maze, maybe they should have removed all the previous mice that refused to follow the rules that they didn't explain.  What was the purpose of sending the girl in?  She didn't do much other than be a girl.  Was the maze a game of wits and strategy?  Only Thomas seemed to out think it.  Everyone else that got out did so by being a follower, nobody else was exceptional, if you are using this as a test to use their sperm to make the next generation of humans.  Thomas kind of put the data together that had been gained by the runners so even his accomplishments are on the backs of others.  Best you could say is they got out by working as a team, how does that help if the test is supposed to identify the truly gifted?
Needless to say, I told Wife to just delete parts two and three, fuck that.  If the best they can do with an auxiliary character that the masses liked is kill him, for another second of "oh no!", then the books are not in tune with their audiences.  For example, it is not uncommon in Chinese movies that the hero dies, like in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.  American audiences would loose their minds if you killed the Rock, or Keanu Reeves or whoever is saving us.  Same for the goofy sidekick, he should get out unscathed, he is there to make the moments lighter and add a touch of humanity.

3/4/18 Is The Napoleon Complex A Real Thing?

I'll admit that I have periods where I am cranky or even bitchy, but it is always temporary, I generally have a good to great life so it is rare for me to stay upset too long.  I thought of this Napoleon thing as I was standing behind the corn on the cob man at HEB.  I dropped off Javalina and headed off to Academy for a pump to inflate our balls, I found my old pump was slashed along the hose.  It is possible it got old and brittle or one of my little shits did it.  Either way, the pump was over ten years old, so I went and bought a new one.  I thought it would be nice for me to go to HEB and get a bunch of breakfast material to be ready for Saturday and Sunday morning.  Walking around, I figured we BBQ most Sunday afternoons, so I also got meat for that.  I got potatoes, but they can be meh, sometimes.  I was going to get corn on the cob which comes out delicious on the grill, but no.  Juan and Maria had a cart full of corns and they about ran away when I approached.  I looked through what they left behind but nah, just the shitty corns.
Fast forward 5-10 minutes later and I am trying to choose a line to pay and they all had a couple people except where Juan was trying to pay for his corn.  Little 5'5" Juan was trying to get the discount sale price of corns at 3 for a $1, instead of the normal 2 for a $1.  His Wife had run away but he was standing firm and demanding he get the sales price.  I had already gotten all my groceries off my cart as his were all in his, I thought he was about done.  I have the worst luck choosing lines to pay.  No matter where we go, I will stand behind the person who just discovered money, or he is still holding on to his checkbook and writing checks, or after being rung up decides he is going to send his kid to get one more thing.  There we stood, maybe fifteen minutes before a manager came and approved the sale, which sucks, because this jackass took corn which I might have enjoyed.  More unsettling was Dick, this employee who had the look of my brother in law, love the guy, but he has that look like he's never wrong.  This little man (also a short guy), wanted to argue for the customer that we had just sold some corn to a lady at 3 for a $1, so what was the big deal.  The big deal, Genius, is that now nobody else gets to enjoy your "loss leader" or whatever you call the discount items to get people through the door.  He was mouthing off as my milk and meat were all getting warm, thanks, like he was fixing to benefit from the corn transaction.
He finally paid and went back to the Chocolate Factory or wherever short people work, and I was next.  The clerk asked how I was doing, I had to say "better if I could have gotten some corns, Jackass took all of the good ones."  I laughed it off and said I was fine just in time for Dick to show back up.  Not sure if he was a manager being nosey or a bagger being lazy, he carried himself like he was 10ft tall, but he was dressed like the other baggers.  He then proceeded to cut off my conversation with the guy when he saw my cinnamon rolls. The cashier said "ooh warm those up for a minute and aah, Heaven."  Dick, of course made out of concrete, retorts "why?  If you heat it up, the frosting is going to melt."  He had a very passive aggressive tone, like I impregnated his wife or something, I just thought where is the love for me, little guy?  You were defending the Helote man a second ago.  As I paid and he helped put the last things in my basket, he told me "enjoy those cinnamon rolls..."  I could hear "Fatboy" in the way he said it.  I said "that was the plan."
I kind of believe this Napoleon Complex thing, when I was at UT, my roommate was a tad short, and oh man, did he have a short fuse.  Every time he got drunk, we were holding him back from wanting to fight this or that person that had disrespected him or whatever.  I just felt like I was dealing with the same type of hard head.

3/3/18 Black Panther (Movie)

We went and saw Black Panther tonight (Friday), on the late showing at 10:50pm at Alamo Drafthouse.  We waited so late to make sure Wife got in town from her work.  As is usually the case with Wife, she stayed late and didn't even leave La Pryor until almost 7:00pm.  It seems her boss who was not there, set up a suicide prevention speaker to come and talk with the kids and parents through out the day, including an after school session with the parents that got away from them.
While Wife was being a hero down there, we spent the day cleaning, Boy cut the grass after I did a tune up on the mower.  Javalina vacuumed, I washed clothes, and took out the trash.  Anything to make Wife's time here more relaxed.  Anyways, she showed up around 10:15pm and the movie was supposed to start at 10:50pm.  We got in the theater right as they turned down the lights.  Another minute and they might not have let us sit.
Black Panther has showed up in previous Marvel movies and he is interesting, this movie kind of gave us his background to tell us what makes him special.  According to the movie, Wakanda, the country where Black Panther comes from is the site where a meteor containing Vibranium, which is the hardest metal in the universe.  The movie picks up in time where T'Challa is to become king of Wakanda after his father died in the last Marvel movie.  The dad was talking in front of the United Nations when they were attacked and he was killed.  This set off a chain reaction where Black Panther got involved with Captain America and the gang.  We are taken through a flashback to see a spy in the US get killed for betraying his country.  This spy had a kid who becomes Kilmonger and because he is a descendent of the country of Wakanda he shows up and wants to fight the new king, who has to accept any challenge as the new king.
I don't want to give any plot points away, but prior to this there is a heist they must get involved in to get a huge chunk of their Vibranium metal back from a bad guy who seems to kill for fun.  This just seems to be a good excuse to see Black Panther in action.  There is a pretty good fight sequence followed by a high speed chase.  They catch the bad guy, who is just a side distraction to get the now grown up spy's kid, Kilmonger, access to the country of Wakanda, complete with appreciation and even some loyalty from one of the "states leaders".
There is a lot of stuff going on and some pretty advanced technology, all home grown, not from another world like Thor, and his home planet, but from our own planet.  The movie was very good, but not what I expected.  It was still good and I never got a chance to get drowsy or fall asleep.

3/2/18 Pre-UIL Band Performance For Javalina?

This whole week was kind of stressful.  I already hate a long week, when I work 4 nights instead of three (@12 hrs apiece), then add that Wife was coming and going all week long which means I have to slow down and interact with her, just enough.  Boy started his new internship which also means he will be running around more than normal, and I have to be aware enough to ask about his new job and stuff, of course I am impressed, it's just that work demands quite a bit of me now compared to a few years ago.  On top of everything, there was of couse, Javalina's band recital.  The band recital is what you make of it.  It can be an exercise to show how many parents give two shits, (not enough), it can also be a chance for other siblings of the band members to show how skilled they are at being annoying and making noise for no reason.  The kids weren't quite as noisy as last time when I had to eyeball an Idiot and shush her with some heavy eye contact, but I still hate sitting among the unwashed masses.
Getting past all the BS, I like to think about when I was in band back in my youth.  Crystal City had an especially big band back in the day.  We were actually introduced as "The Pride of Crystal City, La Banda De Los Javalinas"  Back in the late 80's, the band would average about 120 people strong.  I didn't think that was that much, but that was in a school with about 400 total students in high school.  The middle school Javalina is at has close to 3000 students, yet the total band kids is around 60, so half as many kids.  What I don't understand is that they divide the kids into 3 bands for some reason.  Because of this, the concert band is only a feeble ten students.  This is hardly enough to be called a band, but they do what they can.  The symphonic band has double, but still only twenty students or so.  The wind ensemble starts sounding like a band to me, with their multiple trumpets and other instrument sets.  The smaller bands are trying to get away with 1-2 flutes and clarinets and even saxophones.
Our full marching band might have something like 10-12 trumpets, 15-20 flutes and clarinets, at least 10 saxophones every year.  That made a tremendous sound, even before I was in band, I could hear them at my house, practicing ten blocks away in the afternoons.
The bands last night did not have quite the power and relying on 1-2 kids to play through a technical part of a song is hard, those kids were doing the best they could, and I loved it.  I could almost close my eyes and feel the movement of the song, it being a junior high band, it still had plenty of squeeking and squawking sounds which I'm sure surprised the kids that made them too.  All in all, I think they are doing great, considering last Christmas was the first time we were introduced to them as any kind of band.  I wish them the best next week at their UIL recital.

3/1/18 Stupid Drivers?

Anybody who reads this knows stupid people are my kryptonite, goddamit, do I hate people who refuse to use their brains.  I almost crashed last night coming to work because of one of these assholes and even after I followed them on Slaughter Lane for a bit, I know they would be surprised if I got off with a baseball bat and took a swing at them.
I have gotten into the habit of using one of the secondary roads to get to work, mostly because there is always a lot of traffic on 1st Street and I don't want to sit through two light cycles, so I cut through the smaller streets meant for the new community to either pop out onto 1st or Slaughter.  Anyways, I am sitting there and if the traffic is coming, it is almost impossible to cut in with the flow of traffic, I tend to wait until everyone goes and probably the light changes over on 1st.  This usually stops the traffic completely for a few seconds and that is when I prefer to jump in.  Sometimes, a small sporty car will be in front of me and I can see that they merge a lot quicker than my giant Excursion and then for a second, I want to do that.  I saw a car go in front of me tonight and I thought maybe I can go, I am always too cautious anyway.  I saw an open lane, or it looked like it through my slightly dirty glass (it's been misty or raining over the last few weeks) but I chickened out just in time to see a minivan without any lights on coming where I thought I would have fit in.
These people are freaking selfish and self absorbed.  They may think I can still see, I don't need my lights on.  But what they don't think about is that we use your lights to see you, specially right at dusk when the sun is setting and everything just looks like a grey shadow.  I didn't get it, the van was not old, he/she had to override the lights on function which just makes him an even worse individual.  The newest cars just leave their lights on day/night, don't tell me he is trying to save on lightbulbs.  I have been running my Excursion for almost 14 years and only gone through one extra set of lightbulbs.
Are they trying to get hit for insurance purposes?  Are they plain stupid?  What is the win, even if you get hit, it is such a pain in the ass to be without your car for a few days.  You don't get cash or I have never understood how this is a profitable endeavor.  Does it require a dirty doctor who agrees with you and you pocket the money from therapy.
