1/17/20 Ramy? (Hulu series)

My brother would look at this and say this is just propaganda, but I really enjoyed looking into the lives of this Muslim family.  The series mostly follows Ramy, a young adult Muslim finding himself in New Jersey in a post 9/11 world.  He struggles with the temptations of being a horny young man who finds temptation all around and his inner desire to be a good and devout Muslim.
Through the course of the 10 episode show (which I watched all in one night), we learn the dad fled Egypt when he was young to come and study in the US.  He met his wife and never went back to the motherland.  His parents are strict but in a regular way, they are very American, even more so because they are still a traditional nuclear family with both mother and father living happily together.  Ramy has a sister and they are both in their 20's.  He, being a male, gets to come and go as he pleases, but the sister still is trapped a little by the ideology of being a good virgin for her future husband.
We see Ramy in his world and he has two Muslim friends, one is a doctor and the other owns a small restaurant, so they are succeeding in life, while Ramy struggles.  In the 2nd episode he is shown being let go from a start-up which is going under.  He has another friend who is severely disabled with muscular dystrophy or something that leaves him barely able to move.  Still, he is involved in the shenanigans and even in one episode there is an extended sequence in which Ramy takes him to meet a girl (key word being girl).
The parents are very laid back, they are not persistent in him marrying any particular type of girl and he seems to prefer dating jewish girls, he "hooks up" with at least two of them in different episodes.  He is not what I would call an attractive dude, but he gets around.  The final straw is when he meets a married woman and before he knows it, she is confessing to her husband who knows his father and they sit down to have a stern conversation about him coming to America and sacrificing everything to provide a better life, and this is what you do with the opportunity?
The last two episodes have him in Egypt where he hopes to find clarity and instead is harassed by his cousin to go eat at Chili's and go do all the American things he is trying to get away from.  He seems to be finding a better connection with his female cousin but this guy just can't keep it in his pants and before we know it, he is making the moves on a family member.
I have to admit that was weird for an ending.  I don't know if it is a cultural thing, but even his friends were encouraging him to "go for it, she's hot!" There were some hilarious scenes throughout that kept me engaged and laughing out loud.  I hope there is a second season.
