5/12/21 Tough All Around In Austin?

I don't understand why it seems like a god given right that if someone wants to live in Austin, they should.  The freaking liberals are spinning themselves into a tizzy on how to keep the homeless where they are so as not to disturb them now that the camping ban will be reinstituted, but sorry, they should have never set up there.  Just for comparison's sake, Boy has a job as an engineer making almost my salary yet by himself he cannot afford to buy a house anywhere here in Austin.  The starting point looking at Zillow.com is pretty much $400,000 inside the city limits.

Nobody is going to rally for Mijo and start a Go Fund Me so he can buy a house, he will just have to work hard enough, save, be responsible and probably have to move in with his girlfriend or maybe a friend to afford his new house, whenever that eventually happens.  another concession he will have to do is probably buy a house outside of town, things get more affordable the farther out you move.  Things are so bad, he is considering looking at houses in the San Antonio area.  Where are the programs to help him afford a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath home?  We are talking about someone who will contribute positively to the economy, will probably never even bother the police, or use social services, and will, given the chance, in a few years move to a bigger house once he starts with a family.  Someone like this is basically fucked in today's economy if they are trying to start life in Austin.  The only saving grace is we bought this house long before this crazy boom we are in now.  We could not afford to buy our house today if we had to, it is too expensive on paper, going off the values in the area.

Meanwhile, social services are figuring out a way to house the homeless population and I wouldn't be surprised if they buy some million dollar property downtown and convert it into small apartments to help them out.  How come no one ever suggests they move out of town until they find something they can afford, my son is going to do just that and he's not crying about it, that is just facts.

I could even say the same thing about Girlie, I guess she got too old to be staying with us, or she wants to live on her own, but she is also looking in the surrounding communities with a friend, it just sucks that this is the only real solution.  DD and his new wife got a small apartment a few miles out of the city paying almost $2000 a month, which sounds ridiculous, but that is where we are.  It just bothers me that if you give up completely and put yourself at the mercy of the public, someone will make it their business to provide for you.  Whatever happened to personal responsibility?
