I know our son was not immune to injury but he had played four seasons without so much as a turned ankle, but it was just a matter of time. He is down for awhile because of his shoulder, the left tackle, one of his buddies is playing with a cast on his hand, he broke two fingers and keeps hurting them in every game. The right tackle was concussed and missed a game but should have probably missed more than that. Their QB was also concussed and should have been out for 4-5 weeks but only missed the first and second game. The back up QB who normally plays defensive back was also hurt, I think the knee, in the first game. The running back had a beautiful 60 plus yard run for a TD then on the next play, they seemed to target him as about three players converged on him and busted his knee, he was carried off the field and was wincing on the bench as the trainers worked on him.
These injuries do not help, specially when the team is so short handed on decent back up players. The back up center had not played center before this season and it was evident, he had two bad snaps in the first quarter that lead immediately to two touchdowns for the other team. He also had crucial penalties, holding and running down field when he shouldn't have, things our son knows better because he has more experience. These mistakes just add to the bottom line, it kills offensive drives, it makes things frustrating when you can't become a cohesive unit and score.
The game last night, another blowout 77-7, wore out the referees flags. I keep thinking they are targeting our team with penalties, because the last two school have been small towns, but the fact is, a lot of back ups are playing and it could be they just make mistakes from their lack of experience. It did look like every good play came back with some sort of penalty though, and that just kills a school's momentum.
I don't know if Mijo will get a chance to get back on the field this season, I hope maybe he can play the last few games or so, but I am not holding my breath. He said it sucked last night after he was in the car with us. He had made mention that maybe he was thinking of not playing anymore awhile back, but last night as the game started, he felt like he was getting left behind, he so wanted to be on the field to compete, he had never felt like wanting something more. All we could tell him was that these things happen for a reason and maybe it is good that he has this experience, it lets him get a taste of what he thinks he wants, and he found that once something he was maybe starting to take for granted was taken away, he did see it as something he does love and wish he could be a part of.
