1/23/18 The Bad Batch (Netflix Movie)

I thought everything Netflix did was great.  This was a clunker of a movie, decent idea, but not a very good carry through.  The Bad Batch has a few things going against it.  First, there is very little given.  We don't know why the people are here, other than they are Bad Batch People.  The story picks up with some random girl gets dropped off at a fence and given nothing for protection from the sun or the people.  The next thing we see is she is being "hunted" by a couple and they capture her and in the next few scenes they cut her arm first and then her leg.  These are cannibals, living off other weaker humans.  There are a couple of scenes where huge bodybuilder types are lifting weights.  Sorry, but this is not believable, as weight training takes real effort and to look like those guys, some steroids, but we get the idea.  They eat a lot of humans to keep up with their protein needs.
I just read the overview and it actually has some big stars, Keanu Reeves comes out as a DJ with too much power who is slowly building a den of baby making mamas for himself.  Jim Carrey also comes out, he must be the guy with the store basket walking around the desert who saves the girl, he doesn't talk much, but shows up when needed.  Giovanni Ribisi is another big name that meanders in a scene that offers nothing.  The head cannibal is the new Aquaman, Jason Momoa, who is full of muscle, but short of dialogue.  Most of the movie lacks some communication, nobody is saying anything, it's like they are just waiting to die or something.
It does seem a little cringy when it starts looking like a romance is fixing to brew between the girl whose arm and leg were taken for a snack and the head cannibal, Aquaman.  His daughter is taken, by the amputee girl when she accidentally runs into the daughter and her mom in a junkyard.  She kills the mom, takes the girl, then losses her at a party.  There is stupidity that makes no sense all around.  Now that I see so many good names of actors, I want to think I missed something, but no, the movie just isn't very good.
There is no explanation of anything outside of what they are going through.  We don't know why Texas was chosen as this desert place, why most of the people are in for, or if there is a way out.  All these people are just misfits and tossed into this bad place.
