5/29/15 If You Want It Done, Do It The Hard Way?

We just got kicked back to reality.  We've been busting our butts fixing up old house, and kind of ignoring bigger house, frankly because it's going to be a pain in the butt to tackle.  We tried an easy out by talking to one of those companies that buys your house as-is.  We realized they would under price us, but man, they aren't kidding.
Wife talked to a guy and he seemed very honest and forthright, saying we were better off going with a realtor because he needs to undercut price by at least 20%.  Wife asked him for a ballpark figure, to which he said if comps you are stating are real, probably buy the house from you for $350,000.  We actually got a little excited, thinking since we aren't paying realtor fees, this is pretty close and we won't have to pick up a paintbrush.  Guy said he would send an appraiser over in the morning.
He took a bunch of pictures according to Wife, but supposedly the real comps put value of houses in neighborhood closer to $370000.  Which means he would have to offer something in the very low $300,000 range.  I understand that they are running a business, but his final number he just texted would be $290000.  That's less than we owe.  There is no way I'm paying for someone to take house away from us.
So now the monumental task of doing what we've been avoiding.  Making big house the focal point and beautify it.  The easiest solution for the pool is rip it out and discard it.  It has been nothing but trouble.  For every hour I enjoyed boobs in there, I have probably been punished with 1000 hours of green water and nasty mess.  There has to be a demolition crew for cement slabs, they can take it all to the dump.
Next phase will be working the floors, new cheap-ish carpet and flooring in kitchen and wash room.  Finally, touch-up walls and voila, house gets sold.  Hopefully this can all be done in the next two weeks.  We'll see.  I want to focus on me, I'm getting tired of writing about these two shitty houses.  I want to write about my new truck and new adventures out on the lakes.
