I had been wanting to buy a freezer for awhile, they just always seem like something only paranoid people have, or maybe hunters who keep hunks of deer frozen after they kill them in the fall. I mean with all the stores all around, why do we need to deep freeze pieces of cow when we can just go five minutes away and buy fresh newly killed dead animal for consumption? Well, this virus just changed the game and how we tackle life. Nothing before had for one, suspended school, or shut down airline companies, we must behave accordingly now. There has been rumors that the national guard may be enacted to shut us down and really stop us from doing commerce, I mean that is basically stopping capitalism, our way of life. So, the only way to stay ahead of the rumors of an even a week of shutdown is to have food in place for our household in our house.
This is when it finally makes sense to invest in a freezer, even if we are playing a little into the paranoia at least it sets us so we don't look like we have our thumbs up our asses. Let's just go out and get one, that is what we do, right? Well, not when you're the last one to decide to do this. We went to Lowe's first, we have a credit card there, but no. They were sold out of all the smaller ones, but we could order the bigger stand up units and wait about a month for delivery. Sam's was out of the ones we had seen a couple weeks ago. Home Depot had the same story Lowe's did, we could order one and wait a few weeks. Target doesn't really do freezers. Best Buy had one large unit they could deliver by this Friday which sounded promising. While waiting for one of the employees to come help, another customer told us they had come from Conn's and they had a floor unit for sale but it was dented, the price was a firm $399. Since the freezer was going to cost over $700, I told the guy I wanted to go check out another place and we would be back.
We got lucky at Conn's, the district manager had just OK'd the selling of their floor units or we could wait again about a month. They had the dented one, a much longer unit for $799, and two stand up units for $699 and $799. He said the $799 had just been put on the floor a couple days ago, so we took that one. It was hard picking out a place to put it, the garage would have been best, but there is just so much clutter I couldn't figure where without spending a couple hours cleaning. For now, Wife kind of decided to just put it where the punching bag has been, not great, but it's not like the weights in the living room look cute.
My one worry was that the only way for me to carry it home was by laying it down in the Excursion, the manager said it would be fine as long as it wasn't for too long. I told him we were right behind there about 5 minutes away. He said it would be fine, just stand it up as quickly as possible and leave it alone for about half an hour before plugging it in. We did, and last I checked last night, it already felt uncomfortably cold. I guess the next step is for us to go buy cow pieces and chicken pieces and fish chunks and pork bellies. All the stuff that makes us say yum.
