3/15/22 Cancelled Cable?

I think we were past due to cancel our cable.  TV viewing is no longer what it used to be, even 5 years ago.  On top of me hating what has become the norm, I don't need all my superheroes to be women or POC, I also ultimately hate having to pay over $250 a month for something we rarely watch.  Cable is such an outmoded way of delivering content that neither boy even had a cable box set up in their room.  Boy removed his box probably ten years ago, and Baby A had a box as of yesterday, but he hadn't had it plugged in since at least the last time we replaced his TV, which was over a year ago, not that he watched any cable shows.  The last time he relied on any programming for entertainment was back in the SpongeBob days when he still watched cartoons to wake up.

We have slowly been reducing the shows we do watch on regular TV, the last ones being The Goldbergs and Black-ish.  Both of these shows have shown us that they too are setting up their own ramps to jump the proverbial shark, we mostly watch because we have been watching for so many years, they are not as funny as they used to be.

Honestly, with an internet connection, we have opened up to a world of new content, from Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Prime Video, Youtube, and even other free services.  We don't even normally think about turning on the cable box, except maybe to watch sporting events.  This may be where it hurts that we cancelled our cable subscription, but until we experience it, we won't be so sure.  I'll probably end up getting a good quality antenna so we can see the big 4 channels in high-def quality, they are supposed to be free and over the air, with an old fashion set of rabbit ears, again, we shall see.

I was also bothered that half the boxes weren't even working anymore.  We had a box in both the kitchen and the room next to it, and neither box came back from the last power glitch, they just refused to connect, and it's not like they have an office where we take them to get them replaced, like TimeWarner used to have.

I think we will get by just fine with the Google Fiber (at $70 a month) we installed a couple months ago.  We have had it for a while, and been using it and testing it, all the while keeping the AT&T service.  Now that I feel comfortable that the Google will do the job, I feel more confident to go ahead and get rid of the old dinosaur service.
