6/29/21 Getting Fired Has To Suck?

Girlie was fired from her job yesterday and that has to suck.  She was actually in the middle of trying to move on and find a better paying situation, but she was not prepared to face life with no stream of income.  On the bright side, she is down to needing about 5 more classes to finish her degree.  Like Boy, she has had a long road to get to her bachelor's degree, at one point she was even put on scholastic probation and kicked out of Texas State.  It took her three years to get her act together, including going to ACC to improve her GPA, get re-accepted to Texas State and get to where she is at.  She has been a much better student with a little age and maturity and now that she has had to pay for her classes out of pocket, she takes school a lot more seriously.

To go along with almost finishing, she is currently doing an internship course for her degree and for the summer is working with a house that deals with young adults who are "special needs".  Because of this and needing to get 200 hours of experience, she tried working a modified shift and she said in the past there had been no problem with her old manager, but she had said things had changed recently and she was under new management and they were not trying to be flexible with her, so she had been warned and was even told she would only be employed as a part time worker, which meant she lost her benefits, including insurance about a month ago.

I think getting fired is a blessing in disguise.  Yes it sucks in the moment, but the work was not interesting or even challenging.  Because of Covid19, she had been working from home and she had even come over and done the work from here a day or 2.  She just made calls and monitored things online for her company, answering emails and responding to customer requests when they had questions.  I can't say if it was warranted or not, but the fact she was already in the process of looking for a new job and that after 5 years she was only recently given a raise to $16 an hour, I would say she is better off.  She can now really focus on looking for a new job, finish her internship, which she is on pace to complete at the end of July, and hopefully graduate in a year or so.

Wife was helping her look for jobs last night and she quickly found some after school jobs at Crockett High School dealing with programs that help with student retention and keeping students from dropping out when they are at risk.  Wife's solution is to always try and get a job with a school, she is a proverbial beaver.  Adam Carolla described a beaver's mindset that if you placed a beaver at the top of the Empire state building, it would immediately try to build a dam, that is what they do.  Wife has always worked with schools and specifically programs that work with at risk kids, so it doesn't surprise me that this is her go to, adding "I know so and so, I could even talk to them to try to help you."
