6/24/21 Mulling Over A Conversation I Had With Wife While Driving?

Last week, we went for a drive and on our way back home, Wife got all uppity about women's sports.  I was going on about something or other about that Rapinoe chick who plays soccer or something and is now a model for Victoria's Secret.  I made a crack about how they think they deserve more pay but they play to empty stadiums, should they then share the money the men's teams make?  I said it sarcastically, but Wife in a moment of dumb, said yes, they should be paid the same, they work just as hard as their male counterparts.  This doesn't make sense on many different levels, first off, why should the men's teams finance the women to the point of making things equal?  I've seen comparisons in basketball and while the men can dunk and go aggressively which is a lot of the reason people watch, the women fall short of this, of course it is rare to see a woman dunk, a handful can do it, but for the most part it doesn't happen.

I have also heard discussions such as at a college, the men's football program makes most of the money that then supports all the other sports programs, this is not fair, but in college the players are not getting paid, so the money has to go somewhere, might as well all the athletes get lifted together.  This seems to be where Wife wants to find equality, I then said maybe if say Mark Cuban owned not just the men's Dallas Mavericks, but also a women's Dallas team that played as many games, but that is not how sports franchises work.  Cuban owns the men's team and it has probably been good for him, it does not mean he is supposed to also own a women's team.  This already being a fact, why would he then give some of the money his team earned to another team to support the women who can't seem to fill their stadiums?  I have no problem with women getting filthy rich by playing sports, more power to them, but they shouldn't get rich by eating into the men's profits, there is nothing fair about that.

This sounds to me like we should pay someone with 30 years experience the same as someone who just started, so it's fair.  Life isn't fair and it shouldn't be.  You should be compensated more as you climb up your ladder and reach certain milestones.  If the women's (whatever sports team) reached a level like the men and they could count on full stadiums and get TV contracts like men's sports have done, then yeah, they should receive money on par with their men counterparts.  But if they are only playing to their parents and the only TV spots they get is public access, then sorry but beat it, let the adults do their thing.
