7/7/18 Solo: A Star Wars Story?

We finally saw the new Solo movie and all I can say is that I stayed awake through it.  I wish it gave me chills like the latest J.K. Rowling movie, man just the scenery they create for every movie is so much wow.  Han Solo was good but I think they were leaning way too much of it on the cute meet between Chewie and Han which was good but not great.  Han never before talked Wookie but he broke into it pretty good for a while to save his life.  Apart from that, knowing Lando Calrissian was going to have a part in the movie was also exciting and Glover was great, he has been on a roll for a while now as Childish Gambino and his acting.
The movie started on Corellia, where Han and his childhood love are orphans who steal to survive.  Even with this horrible upbringing, Han somehow develops a good moral fiber and lives only to get back to his girlfriend, which doesn't make sense.  As far as a movie to show us Han's backstory, this did the job.  The problem is that this is another Star Wars movie without Jedis.  It becomes something like running through mud waiting for some magical jedi moves or Yoda saying something clever.
There were a few things that just did not make sense.  The girlfriend in the end talking to Darth Maul made no sense at all other than to try and connect the new to the established Star Wars world.  He would not waste his time on a non-Sith lord.  She has no jedi/sith powers or we would have seen something in her fighting.
The idea of them stealing the energy things, or coaxium was basically a western in disguise.  They even went so far as to try and steal it from a train, how 1930's of them.  Another group showed up trying to do the same heist and then it turns out these are the people starting the Rebellion, the real good guys.  It is interesting how Solo is there to basically bankroll the start of the Rebel forces, contributing so much Coaxium that the rebel forces can afford to buy X-wing fighters, cannons, and whatever other needs they might have.  I can't help but think that someone who grew up poor and on the streets living to survive, one wouldn't have the heart to care for the well being of others who the Empire has rolled over, yet, there he is, giving his hard fought stolen Coaxium, even took the trouble to refine it for them and then just hands it over?  Sounds weak to me.
Like I said, the movie was likable, but I don't believe a lot of it.  If they failed the Vos guy, he would have been quick to kill all of them, why give them another chance to fail?  Why would the Vos guy have a direct line to Darth Maul?  This is the Empire, yet the train only had like five guys protecting the most valuable stuff in the galaxy.  What happened to Han's Girlfriend in the few years he joined the Empire for training on flying and mainly to escape his dire situation?  She must have been locked up to pay for stealing the Coaxium, where is the opportunity to meet a playboy like Vos?
I'm sorry but a Star Wars movie needs Jedis to be a Star Wars movie.  Disney should be interested in Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi's past, maybe even something showing Yoda getting his start.  Then it should focus on a new set of heroes.  People are going to get tired of our childhood heroes getting wringed for every penny they can think of.
