6/14/15 Bye Bye Old House?

We finally flinched and made a decision on our houses.  We talked to a realtor about putting our older home on the market.  I have some sentimental attachment to it, but financially, decisions must be made if we are ever to climb out of the credit card debt we have slowly dug ourselves into.
The lady seemed nice enough, not one of those slick "bitches" that shows up in a Mercedes and tricks her way into making us sign a contract.  She just stayed on point, showed us comparable homes, and insisted it is a hot market, houses just don't stay on the market very long.  People are coming in from out of state in droves and of course they are looking for a place to stay.
We needed an outside person to come and tell us "STOP".  We keep buying and improving and spending and at a certain point we need to stop.  This will not be our house, I just hope whoever moves in appreciates the expensive carpet.
We are still going to paint the outside and do some light trimming of the trees.  The realtor suggested we plant some colorful flowers in the front to give it a focal point.  Wife was ready to start doing concrete work, luckily realtor told her no.
It is not guaranteed but she had many examples of houses selling in less than a week, most of her comparables were selling in 3-5 days.  She said she didn't see a problem at the price point we chose.  Initially, I would have been happy selling around $140000 but we have put in about $20000 worth of improvements, but she said $165000 was not a crazy price for the area.  I want to go on vacation and come back to news that it is sold and done.  Now that I know we are not keeping it, I want to stop paying the $850 a month ASAP.
Nobody was happier with this decision than Chubs.  He gets to stay in his original Elementary school where he knows everybody and is well liked by his teachers, principal, etc.  He had been invited to be one of those pesky student aids that help people cross the street and hang the flag in the mornings.  I don't know that I want him doing it, but at least now, it can be discussed and decided on as a choice.
