5/17/22 Gearing Up For Summer Conditioning?

School is not over yet and we are already planning how the summer is going to go in regard to football practice.  The head coach for football wanted an all-parent's meeting last night to discuss the summer expectations.  I would be a little bummed out after the beating these boys have taken the last two years, but this past season there was a new alignment and several of the school that were just destroying our team have been moved up to 6A, the largest high school division.  Crockett is now going to mostly compete with schools inside of AISD, as it should.

Apparently, school ends in two weeks, and conditioning starts two days after, giving a day in between only because of graduation.  The boys are pretty much expected to be there 5 days a week, starting with lifting weights, speed and conditioning and ending with practice on position drills, such as linemen hitting the sleds and stuff like that, I think.  Let's face it, football is king, especially in Texas.  They do get the week of 4th of July off, so if we had thoughts of going on vacation, this is the week to do it.  The schedule has a couple more days off here and there, but Mijo will pretty much be a gym rat all summer.

There was also discussion on how the coach will keep up with their grades as he did this year.  Some of the parent's want him to do it all year, not just for the duration of football season.  He did congratulate the linemen crew, as they are all above a 3.0 GPA.  He followed this with his pledge and goal to have all his seniors get offered some sort of college offer to play football somewhere.  According to him, there are teams outside of Texas that go with unfilled rosters, and they would gladly take boys from Texas, such as schools up in Idaho, or Iowa, as examples.  He has already been talking with us about a couple of school interested in Mijo, just not sure yet if he is blowing warm air up our butts or if it is legit.  Mijo says he wants to play, if a team wants him enough to offer him some compensation, otherwise, he will probably just go to Texas State, Wife says he will be automatically accepted because she and her older brother went there.

The meeting wound down with words from the Booster Club, which we have been participating a lot with lately.  We have made a nice sum of $8000, with all our efforts, and that was with starting from $0 at the start of the season, there had not been a Booster Club since 2015.  Part of this money will be used to buy black pants for an additional look, plus some of the money is being used to buy more weights.

All in all, we are going to be busy, the sad part is it all ends after the crazy run we are about to embark on, I can only hope Mijo enjoys the ride.
