Javalina didn't place in the shotput, but managed to land about 11th place in the discus, which was surprising, considering he didn't even want to throw it. Honestly, I am glad he is throwing with the JV squad. He acts like an authority, he is comfortable with his buddy, the other lineman throwing with him. He says they bench about the same, so he considers him his equal although he needs to do better on the squat. While the JV boys were throwing the shotput, the varsity boys were throwing the discus, so they are kept far apart. You could tell when the varsity guys came over, they are just so much bigger and thicker, almost like grown men. My son is 15 and clearly has room to grow, even the super tall JV boys look awkward, like they need to fill in and thicken up, but the varsity boys are almost scary big.
It doesn't help that as Wife was saying, this was a tournament with a bunch of 6A schools. Each school has at least 2,290 kids to choose from. Crockett HS is relatively smaller as it will now be a 4A school with a population between 500 and 1200 or so. Still, Mijo might get beat, but his confidence and swagger are ill affected. He still insists he could throw farther than the other guys, I am over here thinking "umm, you didn't place, Knucklehead."
Once he got done with the discus, we were ready to get out of Dodge. It seems that the more the sun came up, the more the wind blew. We invited his friend along for a ride home, and he took it. At one point it was announced that the track events were not starting until 3:00pm. What kind of game is that on a kids mind? Wake him up before 6:30am so he can run and compete at 3:00pm?
As badly as I felt for the kids left behind, they are young and strong, so maybe it didn't affect them as bad as us, the wind, I mean. I was just glad to get out of the bad weather and back to our sanctuary. Wife drove, and although I didn't plan on it, I fell asleep hard. Next thing I knew, we were by the wing place close to our house, but the way Wife parked, I had no idea where we were for a second.
We had a decent lunch, along with Javalina's friend and then we took him home. I love coming home after a rough outing. We were only out there three hours, but it was enough for me. We slept probably until 5:00pm, then we were able to go about our day. Wife wanted to go to Lowe's, we have been infested by flying ants, so we got an ant killer which she has been spraying around the kitchen, no doubt, reducing our lives in the process, most likely. We got some other interesting stuff, but I think that is best for another blog.
