4/23/21 What Have You Done?

The Derek Chauvin trial is over and now we must live with the repercussions created.  It really seems like the jury was coerced into their decision, even if some did agree that it was a just decision.  When you have the powers that be in congress saying "we must get more active, more confrontational...", you are just emboldening young impressionable people to continue the destruction of their own cities.  Not only was this one congress person, when brought to light, the leadership agreed with this sentiment, so it sits on the shoulders of all of them.  The immediate result of this seems to be that the national guard was shot upon by demonstrators.  This is akin to a military outburst that will at some point be confronted with an equal response, I won't be surprised when that happens.

I just saw a story from The Oregonian, Oregon's largest newspaper, just published a "mea culpa" saying it was a horrible mistake to support "Defund The Cops" as the murder count has skyrocketed.  In the 1st quarter of 2019, there were 6 homicides, in 2020, there were 2.  In the first quarter of this year, they are already up to 25.  This doesn't show that something like 266 people have been shot, so maybe removing a law enforcement presence wasn't the smart thing to do, unless this is how you want to live.  They had dismantled the gun violence reduction team which was a police unit that responded to all shootings in the Portland area.  Now that reason has crept back into some of the leaders, they are trying to reinstate the unit but the city council is still pushing back, probably to appease the rioters on the streets.

It is nice that every usual celebrity came out applauding the guilty verdict as all seem to say "justice was served."  During the trial, the coroner said Floyd had a 98% oxygen saturation, which means he wasn't suffocating.  I heard the coroner also said Floyd showed signs of a damaged heart indicating a heart attack or heart failure.  All these facts did not seem to matter, as the jury was not really given a choice, knowing the mobs were already building outside to react, so give them what they want.

The outcome of this I think is that police are definitely going to be more hesitant to respond to calls where POC are involved, so that is something everyone seems to want.  Less of a police presence in these troubled neighborhoods will be another probable outcome.  I don't think this matters to all those celebrity millionaires, they have their own armed security and live in "nice neighborhoods" so they sleep well at night.  Maybe I am wrong, maybe this will start a love embrace and all people of all colors will reach out and show love and compassion for their fellow man, maybe the race problem is now solved and we can all move on not as black and white and brown, but as Americans.... I mean, maybe.
