7/16/17 Spider-Man: Homecoming (Movie 2017)

We were headed to dinner Last night and almost went to yummy Pappadeaux, but Boy doesn't care for it.  I joked that we could just go to Whataburger but Wife was not impressed.  Boy came up with a brilliant idea of going to the movies to see Spider-Man and eat there.  We talked about going but hadn't agreed on anything earlier in the day.  It was about 9:40pm and the movie was starting at 10:05pm.  Perfect timing for a movie, specially since we all wanted to see it and there would be eating involved.
The movie is a recreation and not a continuation.  I am not sure if this was done to keep Spider-Man young, or Toby Maguire got too expensive, but he was back in high school, being a nerdy geek boy with maybe one friend.  Aunt May was kind of hot, played by Marissa Tomei, and there was no sign of Uncle Ben.  On one of the first scenes Tony Stark shows up to talk with the new Spider-Man, he blows smoke up his ass about needing him to be ever alert and ready for anything.  Spidey is given a cell phone by Stark mostly so Stark can track him, but Spidey really wants to be an Avenger and is too eager to get into some action, even where there is none.
In this one, Peter Parker really is more of a kid.  He has very little control of his need to be discreet.  He is constantly pushing his want to be in the Spider-Man gear that eventually he gets discovered by his goofy, chubby friend.  His friend then makes me nervous the rest of the movie that he is going to spill the beans and let Peter get discovered by the whole school in an effort to show off how cool they are.
The bad guys this time around are lead by Michael Keaton, which was a weird choice, but he did work out pretty good.  There is still junk from the big Avengers battle all over New York when the story starts, and Keatons character is a good old New Yorker who had won a contract to clean up the alien stuff and the busted city skyscraper parts.  Five minutes in, some quiet government types show up that this is their jurisdiction now and they will be taking over.  Keaton is angry, he has leveraged his house and business buying new trucks and what not thinking they were going to have a big payday, now it is all gone.  He keeps a few of the loads with alien hardware and they start tinkering with it, creating weapons and gadgets.
Eventually, Spidey sees what they are doing and makes it his mission to take the bad guys out.  Unfortunately, the weapons are pretty good and the Keaton character even has a flying birdman costume, as if he is playing homage to his movie that woke his career back up.  Another twist is that he is also the dad to the girl Spider-Man has a crush on.  There is a big battle as there always is and true to form, after giving the Bird Man a beating he turns around saves him from dying.  Tony Stark had lost faith in him earlier in the movie, but his actions in the end convince him that Spider-Man is indeed good enough to be an Avenger.
It was a better movie than I was expecting.  I have been sleeping through some movies lately, Transformers, for example.  This one did not have any downtime.  It was solid entertainment the whole movie through.
