11/29/21 New Generation Does Not Enjoy Our Old Movies?

Baby A says I am 1 for 9 as far as choosing old movies to watch.  We keep going back, I want him to be aware of movies I thought were entertaining and had some pop culture significance but this boy so far is not impressed.  Last night we tried watching Stripes, which I thought was very funny when I was about his age.  It was nice that they had the gratuitous nudity for no real reason, but even that did not do much to sway him.  He thought the characters were shitty, specially the Bill Murray character, John, who our son looked like a person who would not get away with any if his shit in the real world.  I kept telling him, in my lame excuse to let the characters slide a bit, that these were the comedians of the 80s, so just seeing John Candy on screen already would start a smile on your face, anything he did, would then be seen as comedy.  I guess without this background knowledge, their antics just seem a little desperate or something.

We didn't even finish watching Poltergeist a couple weeks ago as he complained that nothing was happening, and I had to agree with him, I remember it being a whole lot more intense, but all we saw was a whole lot of talking and bad special effects.  It was almost comical when the tree was eating the son.  I know that special effects were still new back then and they have come a long way, but still, they did not leave an impression on our grumpy boy.  We offered to finish watching the movie over Thanksgiving break but he said what for, it's just so boring?

He is still mad about Top Gun saying that is the worst thing he has ever seen, except for maybe Fast Times At Ridgemont High might be worse, with a bunch of shitty kids doing nothing.  I am almost scared to suggest any other movies as he just ruins my childhood classics with his "meh, it was ok, I guess."  Goonies was a dud, he did say the first Back To The Future was good, as well as Big Trouble in Little China.

I feel like I have to pull out the big guns, something like Django Unchained, or Dusk Til Dawn.  I don't think he can complain about a good Tarantino movie.  I personally was not impressed by the gangster movies, but I guess we can try the Godfather, or Casino, or Goodfellas.  If that doesn't work, I am going all the way back to Casablanca and Gone With The Wind.  It can't all be Marvel and DC movies, that shit gets old with the save the world theme.

He did like Constantine which we saw last night, but he said I didn't come up with that, he gave the credit to Wife for suggesting it.  I swear he just likes to mess with me.
