10/18/17 Bedichek Vs. Murchison?

This was the strangest game of the year for me.  First of all, Wife finally joined me again since the opener, so it was nice having a partner to enjoy the highs and lows while cheering for our husky boy.  Another strange part was that Chubs had a headache on Wednesday, so I let him come home after school, the headache started the day before after practice and he kept telling me all night and even in the morning that he didn't feel right.  Apparently, the coaches weren't as sympathetic as I was as he lost his position as starting guard.  He is now the rotating sixth man for the offensive line which would be great, but after the first six weeks grades, the team is down to 16 players.  What the shit that you have that few players and my kid who has been doing solid work at line is suddenly spending most of the game on the sideline with the other 4 tiny guys too small to play every down.  I was tempted to grab him and just go home, but that would not be very sportsmanlike.  I decided to stew in my own anger, and just accept the consequences for him missing practice.
Another strange caveat, was that the other team was a good hour late.  Just to remind us we are in Austin, the other team was stuck in traffic and instead of starting at 6:00pm, the game did not start until almost 7:00pm.  Murchison came strong, they obviously didn't have the same flunkitis disease decimate their team.  They had a good 30-40 kids on the team.  It was nice that they also had like 19 cheerleaders who were actually doing cheers all game long.  You would think it doesn't matter, but those cheerleaders add a lot of flavor to a game, and just as an extension of that, over in the Burger Annex, the smaller stadium adjacent to Burger stadium, one of the schools even had their band in the stands and wow, I had to peak over there, it sounded like a college game with the band going all out.
As far as the game, it didn't look good, Murchison recovered a fumble in the first series and took it straight for a touchdown.  They then kicked the extra point, which is impressive to me.  They were up 13-0 in the 2nd quarter before Bedichek got going and scored a touchdown and two point conversion.  I told Wife if they can score another touchdown, they'll actually be in the lead, cue quick touchdown for Murchison.  The second half went super fast and before we knew it, Bedichek managed another touchdown, but there were only 3:50 on the clock, with the other team up 19-16.  I was like, well as long as it's not a blow out, it's ok.  Murchison was in complete control, Bedichek used their three time outs almost textbook type to stop them and get the ball back with 2:00 minutes only to let the QB run for 26 yards on third and 25.  That seemed to break everyone's spirit.  All they had to do was run the clock out, but they kept running sweeps to the outside.  Had they shown class and taken a knee with 30 seconds left, they would have won, but no.  On the last run, one of our boys stripped the ball, it bounced right into his hands and he managed to run like 50-60 yards and scored with 3 seconds left.  Most of us in the crowd were standing saying good game blah blah blah, and before we knew it Bedichek stole the game 22-19.  Chubs played eventually in a few series both on offense and defense, but I liked it when he had a starting role.  He was mad about not playing more, told me he stood next to the coach creeping and saying "can I go in?" every few seconds.  I noticed he stood by the coach, but I didn't know he was being a pain in the ass.  Maybe next time he'll walk off a headache, like a man! (I guess that's what he was supposed to do).
Consequently, they are now standing at .500 with 2 wins and 2 losses and a tie.  They have all been close games which is good because blow outs suck.
