8/3/18 Life After Beth? (Netflix)

I really think that the zombie market has now been flooded.  This must be the fifth movie I have seen concerning the undead.  It could be a clever ploy, but we have just seen it too often.  In this one, we get to see the "if I could only have one more moment with her to tell her what I felt..."  Bethany, played by Aubrey Plaza, goes for a hike on a random afternoon and she supposedly gets bit by a snake and passes away.  After all the funeral and mourning, apparently, she shows up.  She doesn't seem herself, she is overly worried about having to take a test and needing to study for it.  The boyfriend Zack was only too happy to see her back, but slowly, he notices she is not who he thought.  The parents are in denial and just want to accept that she is ok, even when they see she is not.
I guess the movie is more of a dark comedy and even at that, there were few laughs, the saving grace being that I like Aubrey in the first place.  As time goes on, she has more and more moments where she loses control.  At one point she burns down a lifeguard shack at the beach when she gets upset.  In another, she drives off in Zack's car and runs over a few headstones, this is where I had a hard time going with the laughs as that is just disrespectful.
Zack is noticing other people that have been gone awhile are back and acting not like themselves, such as the mailman who has been gone for like 6 months showing up all of a sudden.  The story hits its crescendo when the original homeowners of Zack's parent's house show up while one of Zack's dead grandpa's is sitting there confused as to what is going on.  Zack's older brother is a gun nut and has his gun out not sure of who to shoot.  In the end, we see in the background plenty of zombies but also plenty of deputized gun crazy people getting their chance to open fire on anybody looking suspicious.
In the end, Bethany is mostly zombie, she ate her father who kept insisting she could be fixed if everything just went back to normal.  Zack not having a choice takes her out for one last hike and shoots her brains out.  If there is a lesson here, enjoy the time you have with loved ones and accept that when it's over it has to be over.  Then coming back as a zombie is not going to be a good idea.
