I don't know what I was thinking for Sunday, other than getting up for some coffee but Wife did not have a problem filling out the day. She came down asking if I wanted to go get tortillas with her at Rosa's Tortilla Factory down the street and I pretty much had to say yes. Because of the looking into my credit card from the bank, and them insisting I had been compromised, they cancelled my card and they decided I would get a new one in the mail. To go without a bank card for most of the week, I needed my Excursion filled with gas, and some cash in case we go have lunch. The guy from the bank said it would take 5-7 days to get my new card. Once that was done, Wife made breakfast and I thought "time for a nap". Of course not, when Wife is around. She said "I am going to go cut the grass." which made me either have to stand up to the challenge or start one of those fights which last past a week.
I told her I would cut the grass in the front, which is usually the easiest thing to do. She was marching around behind me and around me with the trimmer until she ran out of battery charge, The only thing enjoyable is listening to music loud with my earbuds. It used to be we had a Walkman or other device which would play one cassette or one CD and we could listen to it through earphones wired to the device. This is the future, now we have wireless earphones, which are earbuds you shove in your ears. They can be connected to anything that has "Bluetooth" technology, which can be laptops, phones, even TVs and other weird stuff. I have lightbulbs in my kitchen that have speakers and my phone frequently connects to them without me knowing or remembering and I can be upstairs and my phone conversations will come through loud and clear in the kitchen. Anyways, as far as listening, today we have music on youtube or blogs, which are people speaking about different topics which can be entertaining or informative.
We ended up cutting both front and backyards together. The back is surprisingly big, I guess because it slopes down to the rear, it takes a lot of effort to cut it. Wife took the lead when we started the back, I had a nasty blue tarp by the pool I had been wanting to cut and throw away and I finally did. I did not have the energy to start firing up the pool but the plan is to start doing it in the next few days. Today would have been nice to jump in after all that working and sweating.
I did manage to get a nap in eventually. we both showered and stuff and I took a nap from around 3:30 to 5:30pm, it was good, but I felt heat coming off of me while I laid in bed. After I got up, we both looked outside and decided it was too sunny outside for BBQ, so the burgers went on the skillet, along with the sausages. Wife didn't want to take another shower, if we grilled she said her hair would smell like smoke.
We ate early enough that I was in bed by 9:00pm. But here I am writing from 2:00am to 4:30am. I guess this works out, I can say bye to Wife, she is fixing to leave, so I'll go walk her out to her car as she heads on down to La Pryor.

4/29/18 Caking and Aging?
It seems like every week is another person's birthday. This week it was my mother-in-law's birthday. We were invited to go have dinner on Saturday afternoon, and after being promised I could sleep all afternoon, I agreed. Basically, we had turkey and all the usual Thanksgiving trimmings. I kind of made it a long day as I have been exploring my bodies scheduled sleeping patterns. I keep insisting I enjoy being up in the morning and sleeping during the middle of the day and then I am fine in the evening.
As it turned out, Boy stayed behind to work at Alamo Drafthouse, and even though he was out late with his new gal, he came home around 1:00am, he asked if we would be his back-up alarm and come check on him to make sure he got up at 5:30am. We went to bed around 1:00am, I tossed and turned restlessly until I decided the best way to sleep was to wake up Wife for a little loving. I felt much sleepier two minutes later, I kid, but soon after, we both fell asleep, although I did put my alarm to wake up Boy, at 5:20am. Once I woke him though, I wasn't really sleepy, I had read some stuff about the new Ford Bronco that it would only come out as a 4 door so of course I got online to look for that. The laptop I keep by my bed decided this was the perfect time to expire its anti-virus, so then I spent half an hour redoing that to keep it current.
At 7:00am, I finally got up and went down for a cup of coffee and some pan dulce. I wanted to look at our bills once again, we have to be more careful now that we've lost both roomies. Anyways, I was up until 10:30am, and then went back to bed as Wife said we were going to leave by 3:00pm. I again, got up at noon, then decided to get ahead of Wife, I started shaving my head, she had told me to get a haircut, my head was looking sloppy. We went back and forth, she finally starts filling me in on her week while we get ready.
Usually, I have been falling asleep as soon as we get on the road, but I stayed awake the whole way. Wife even decided to stop at McDonald's and get a "Spurs box" with two small burgers, a 20 pc box of nuggets and two fries. We shared all this between the three of us, finishing before we got to San Antonio traffic.
It is very nice nowadays going to my in-laws. They know I like to nap, so I say hello, listen to Wife start retelling some stories and eventually I head on over to lay down. They woke me when dinner was ready around 6:30pm, and I was about ready for more sleep after turkey, ham, cheesecake and cake.
Wife finally woke me around 11:00pm, and we headed back home. This time, I did sleep the whole way, not sure why I am so lazy, but here I have been since 3:00am and it is now 5:30am writing this daily albatross of mine.

4/28/18 Retirement?
Is that our goal? I'm not sure that is winning more than surviving but it is a change of pace. I am thinking about this because a long time coworker just retired this week. I didn't want to but I felt a tinge of sadness at saying goodbye. This is a person I worked with in the same room for about 7 to 9 years. I pretty much drove the other lady crazy and she left, but this one put up with my bad singing and cursing at the tools, listened to my stories about my boys growing up, she taught me a bit about having a farm and the difficulties of having a few head of cattle, even when she moved to the miniature cows, which I just fell in love with the idea, but I don't have the stones to be responsible enough.
Ever since we worked together, she was talking about retiring in another three years. It came as a mild shock to hear her actually do it. In our last conversation, she mentioned to her supervisor that she was willing to put her head on the shopping block, if there was going to be a lay-off, hopefully save the job of her coworker. Instead, she was ignored and the other guy of a total of four was laid off. He was given a handsome retirement package, and for her efforts and years of work, she got nothing, but of course, that was her choice.
So now what? My Mom has been retired for the 2nd or 3rd time and she keeps busy with the grandkids. My Dad on the other hand, I'm not sure finds himself relaxed in his golden years as he seems a need to go to those shitty illegal casinos. Retirement seems to go well with some people, I feel like I would rather work than sit around the house, specially if it was going to be full of rugrats. My ex coworker says she bought a small-ish farm up in north Texas, mostly to get away from the allergies in central Texas. She still has a farm's worth of animals, she said she took her cows up on the last trip, so I am sure she gets to work outside more full time. She was good at raising her own food, frequently selling fresh eggs to our coworkers, and I remember her bringing vegetables when she grew more than she could eat and save.
I hate to think that we work until we stop being useful or cost too much on a balanced sheet, but I guess we aren't much different than the tools we run, to our supervisors. Most everybody there is near 65 or getting there shortly. I am still unsure if retiring is the golden goose or just a nice way to get out of the game. I do know it is a weird feeling saying goodbye to a long term coworker and being that I am one of the youngest, it is going to suck in the next few years as more and more of our older people sign off. For all I know, the company may go under tomorrow, but if not, most people there are near that age, I hope we all get the choice to do it if we want to.

4/27/18 Work's Ebb And Flow?
Last week it seemed like we were on a rally, maybe we have gotten just enough customers to keep so busy we need a little OT to keep up. Nope, this week reminds me that it just happens some weeks are busier than others, as this one barely triggered a pulse. Last week, I spent most of the shifts running like I was working at Discount Tire (those guys hustle). I was simultaneously keeping the prep tool running, working in the acid hoods mixing this and that, and keeping at least one of the two if not both actual tools that produce our data running.
This week, it looked like we lost customers, they never sent us some of the stuff we normally have to rally and prep while doing other stuff. Last night, basically just sat on my fat ass and ran one job, it was a big job, but still. It is possible next week will be balls to the walls again, if we look at the pattern, seems like every other week we pick up a bit. I am hoping for some OT, my trainer is going to be off most of next week, which is already the first week in May and the third week as well. These are both short weeks for me, which means I am off Thursday and Friday. She works those days, if I can come in it would help a lot towards the loss of my roomies recently.
I have some tasks to do around the house, such as clean the pool before my neighbors rat us out as they like to do. There is also the matter of the dead tree in front of the house which Wife has been busting my butt to take care of. Maybe this is the weekend, I just hate doing stuff like this in the middle of a hot ass day.
If anything, we should be starting the weekend early, Wife is supposed to go to Jourdanton for awhile then she is free to come up. I told her it would be pretty fucking stupid to demand you to go back to campus on a Friday. She just said yeah yeah, I'm heading to Austin after I finish in Jourdanton. Cool. I love the woman's energy, but for her own good, she doesn't know when to stop. If there were ANY kind of meeting at the school, such as the flute section of the band meeting to discuss candy sales, she would still feel she was needed there for input and probably head that way, even if it meant she didn't get to Austin until 10:00 or 11:00pm. I kid, I kid, but not really. Anyways, here's to a great Texas weekend.

4/26/18 FInal Track And Field Was Not?
After a rough start and missing the first meet for our son, I promised to be better and show up earlier than he suggested. It worked for the next couple of meets. It was fun, I only wish he also had a chance to throw the discus in competition. It seems the was the back up discus guy and was even told to warm up for it twice at meets but was then told not to worry about it. What I like most about my Javalina is that he has a fire burning in his belly. He was pissed he didn't do better. That being said, I wanted to make sure he could only be mad at himself this past week. I don't like shitty kids that blame everyone around them for their shortcomings. After the last meet when we were walking and talking towards the car I told him "remember, this is not football, if you don't like your ranking, it is all on you, this is a sport of 1. You need to get stronger, practice more and focus. Just being mad for the sake of being angry is not helpful."
I don't know if any of my words sunk in, but he said during practice this week, he had thrown thirty feet. I am always a little leery, but I said hmm, then do it at the meet and you'll be where the winner was at the last meet. First and second place were within inches in the 30 feet range. He threw a respectable 27 feet, which put him 7th in the group.
We did everything we could to support him today. I got up with enough time to shower and get there with time to spare. Wife showed up, she was in San Antonio for a thing, and even Boy joined us right as we were getting ready to leave the house. The only problem was that a big ole rain storm accompanied us and it did not give up until after we did. It rained from about 5:00pm to around 7:00pm, which cut the whole thing out. It sucked because we were ready to get rained on, I took my frogskin, a poncho thing that is waterproof, Wife and boy had umbrellas, but the kids were not allowed out of the busses even as we all sat there. Boy texted a couple times that maybe they would start at 7:00pm. I couldn't help but fall asleep, as Wife was being her usual worker bee and conducting work through her phone.
Eventually, the coaches gave up, I guess there was a little lightning and they are throwing metal balls and disks at the sky, so they chose not to tempt chance and have someone get hit by Zeus's mighty thunder bolts. The season ended in a whimper at Taco Bell. In our hearts, we believe our little champion threw for 30feet, but the world will never know.

4/25/18 The I Know Everything Generation Sucks Even When They Are Helping?
I pretty much throw everything up here, even some of my more private affairs, that being said, I am not sure how I feel about this whole exchange. Yes, we are happy that Boy is finally dating again, I am just not happy about the whole thing overall. We love the girl, she has been Boy's "best friend" since they were sophomores in high school, so she has been around a good 10+ years. The problem comes in thinking about the big picture. They had a disagreement a couple years ago when our son lied that he was done seeing his ex but he was still getting some on the side from her. Best friend said she was done talking to him for lying to her, seemed excessive, and Boy did not take it well. I worry that now that they are dating and it doesn't work a similar thing will happen and then where will our little robot Boy go? It is their decision to change the status from friends to more than that. All that doesn't bother me, other than I don't need to see the fallout from this failing.
What does bother me is when Idiots play house. It started last week "Dad, it got late on her, she is going to stay the night." That never bothered me before, she had a boyfriend, Boy is not a horny pervert, but what stops them now? I said fine, but she sleeps in the guest room, not with you. Again, this weekend, she flew out of state, Boy picked her up at the airport. Great, but the pick up time went from 11:00pm to 1:00am or some shit. Boy texted he was going to stay at her folk's house because he was too tired to drive back home. In the middle of the night, I do just want him to be safe, but this BS is not going to float, they need better time management and NOW! So I decided to nip it in the bud and I caught both of them at the house today as I was coming to work.
Here's the bugger, "as the kid that is getting the warning/talking to, you can't take over the conversation, nothing makes me want to kick you where the good lord split you more. "See, I knew your folks were going to have a problem with us playing house, to my son." And the cherry on top, "and what else is bothering you?" in a condescendingly friendly helpful way. I was caught taken aback, all I could think is I was walking down the stairs facing up, she had come out of Boy's room, Boy had actually just walked in the front door. I never felt more like I was in a weak position to argue, like in Star Wars where Obi Wan has the high ground and Anakin is below in the lava pit scene.
I am still re-shaping my relationship here as well so I won't go into judgment so fast, but goddammit, we will be revisiting this interaction again and again until the attitude disappears.
