There is a small trend I see online, FB and such, where anything good that happens people like to say praise God, He is great. It kind of pisses me off when in a medical situation there is a doctor and staff of probably twenty people who diagnosed, cared for, made the medicine, cleaned the room of any latent germs, did the operation and made sure everything went smoothly. The bill certainly says Dr. Badass, but the simple people on FB will say Ahh, Thanks To God. So, the doctor was just a decoration? My Mom and others like to say well God works through the doctor, guides him. Really? This person who has done nothing but spend 20 hours a day studying the body, viewing and reviewing whatever surgery he performs over and over, probably not a religious person either, most people of science are not, yet God works through him. Why not pick the denser kid who totally believes in God and other fairies to be the doctor instead, if the person is being guided by a higher power?
It is the same thing with the athlete who does nothing but train catching footballs with one hand in all sorts of different situations. Then he catches a touchdown pass and he wants to credit God. Why? You're the one working your ass off. You really think the guy in the sky who lets 29,000 kids die each day is worried about whether the green team or the blue team wins? He can't feed people by the thousands, but he is there so you can catch a ball and collect millions of dollars? Wow, you are as special as you think you are.
I was having a discussion with a friend and his opinion is that religion and the idea of a higher power just needs to go away. I don't totally agree, it is a good salve for the masses. The one good thing religion does is give hope. The criminal locked up who finds Jesus, I say good. Maybe he can spend some time trying to be a better person because of Jesus, then great. I don't think smart people should be wasting their time praying, use Sunday as a day to be with family and loved ones. If there is a God, he is a higher power, he knows who is good and who is a fake. Sitting in a pew on Sunday does nothing but help your own guilt and or ego. There is no way a real Jesus would want a bunch of people praying and looking at the "white" Jesus. He shouldn't have blue eyes, he should look like people in the middle east look, sorry but he was a small brown man, if he ever existed.
