A few of the people I work with have been doing a challenge put out by Yeti, the expensive cooler company. The challenge is to try the fifty best BBQ places in Texas. They all are carrying little books and upon eating at a restaurant, they get a tag. Yeti is then coughing up prizes like shirts and mugs and if you manage to eat at all the fifty recommended places, you can qualify to get a free cooler. Other than the hardside cooler, there is also a soft side pouch cooler that came out about a year ago. This thing retails for over $300. One of my coworkers is 28 restaurants in. She already qualified for about five different prizes which they stopped at a Yeti store and picked up some of them, others are being mailed to their house.
I don't know that I want to get all serious, planning my weekend around places I might eat at. For example, the first time we noticed they were doing it, they had a picture on FB and had been in line at a really famous place out in West Texas for like two hours. I would be pissed to stand in line for that long and then to come to the front of the line to be disappointed that they ran out. On the other hand, it's Texas, there have to be other choices if not the BBQ you set out to conquer, surely there will be something else to satiate that appetite. I do like the idea of having a reason to drive in a new direction on an adventure of sorts. Wife asked for the names of a few places she has really enjoyed, so yesterday I took a couple of pics of the name and address of three restaurants to try this weekend. One is just down the street on Manchaca Street. She said they even serve breakfast which is something I have been wanting to find, a great breakfast place we can enjoy some eggs, coffee, homemade tortillas, and she said they will bring out the brisket for breakfast, if you ask.
The other two are further away, they can't all be in our neighborhood, but there is a place she highly recommended on North Lamar, Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew. If we aren't distracted with anything else, this is what we're doing Saturday night. Looks like we got the movies on Friday, I've really been wanting to see that new Tom Cruise movie where he is a pilot trafficking shit for the CIA, Chubs is wanting to go, just to get another grinder burger like he got two weeks ago. Wife is already in town (writing this Thursday night, Friday morning). And yes, thank you for asking, we already knocked them boots during my lunch break, thank you T shot. Maybe I was a little rapey, but like in all good porn, she came around and liked it.
But the possible pastime is trying BBQ places not dealing with my shenanigans. I'm just one of her chores, like sweeping or making dinner, she gets me out of the way to enjoy the weekend. :)
