Wife and I keep talking about missing those few years ago when we seemed to have a gathering or party every couple of weekends. The last few years have just been quiet and a bit boring. I guess the beat goes on, even if nobody is really dancing to it. Today (Friday after 4th of July) was pretty much another relaxing day with no agenda. We had bought ribs to grill, they were on sale on Tuesday, and we thought maybe we'll jump in the pool.
Javalina has been having sleepovers every other weekend and that is fine, so we knew he had at least a couple boys coming. Only two of the three showed up and that is a good amount, but Wife thought the ribs would be overwhelming for the boys, so she got them pizzas. We had three racks of ribs and honestly Wife cooked them directly over the fire and fast, so they were very char flavored, yet delicious with a just right amount of BBQ sauce. While we were doing this, Girlie was studying for her summer class, her BF was in their room playing video games, Boy had a group of people as they had planned on helping a friend move some furniture. Wife did not like this much because the boy is just getting over mono and there is no win in him going to do this, but how do you stop him? At least they called reinforcements and DD showed up with his GF and out of nowhere another friend from Del Valle showed up. This one moved to Houston and recently graduated with a degree in hotel management.
Javalina wanted to and did walk to Target with his two buddies, which is about a mile from the house while the meat was grilling. I told them to call me when they got done buying whatever snacks and I would go pick them up as it was getting late. They probably left at 8:00pm when it was still lit and I picked them up probably at 9:00pm. We got home just as their pizza was delivered, they ate pizza in their room, Girlie and the BF joined us eating ribs and sausage. We were having a pretty good discussion about different Netflix shows we should all watch when Boy got back and the house got loud.
Javalina saw Boy's friend and we had just been telling him how much of a big mouth he is becoming and the first thing he says is "Hey, didn't I kick your ass last time you were here?" as he gave him a hug followed by them clearing the island so they could arm wrestle. The little boy is a shit talker. They had picked up hoagies or subs or something and it became a big party with everybody eating and telling tales. I honestly love that and miss it. All through the days Boy was in high school, we usually had one version or another of these kids here at the house, it is nice that as they have become adults, they still feel comfortable enough to stop and visit.
