There was a chant something like that when I was little, but man, this rain has been out of control. Honestly, no day has been so bad that we are flooding the main highways, it's just a steady thing that doesn't want to stop. I remember since Javalina's first game, we were sitting under these beautiful thick clouds that opened up just enough for the game to be dry but the weather was cool, even thugh it was early September. It is now almost the end of October and we are still seeing rain in the forecast most days of the week.
Although it has not been raining the proverbial cats and dogs, it seems we manage a mist or a drizzle a couple times a week and that must be enough to keep us saturated. This week it got so bad that we are currently having to drink bottled or boiled water. City of Austin facilities cannot keep up with the city's water needs. If I understand correctly, they have had to release a lot of water from Lake Travis and this has turned the river downstream into a brown silty mess. There is too much floating goop in the brown water to remove it with the city's water cleaning facilities, so although we can shower and use the water, we are not supposed to drink it for fear that bacteria has escaped past the normal deterrents. Luckily, Wife was here Monday night for Javalina's game, which got postponed due to the water problem, but she managed to stop on her way from San Antonio back to Austin and bought us like four cases of water. We have been drinking this, so it hasn't been too bad. She also left water in a big pot that she boiled, but I don't know what to do with it.
It was interesting, after the football game, Tuesday night, we went to Whataburger to get some dinner and they did not let us eat inside, their floorspace was taken up by cases and cases of 12 ounce soda cans. I guess the fountain drinks are made by mixing soda syrup and water. Since they had no water, we were offered a twelve ounce can when normally they will give you a half gallon of soda in their large cups, I felt so robbed. I wanted to ask for two cans but I didn't want to be "that guy". Same thing happened today at Bill Miller, we could have a bottled water or orange juice with our combos, no other choices. We are supposed to warm up over the weekend, maybe that will allow the city to catch up and clean their equipment.
