I just saw this movie last night and if you enjoyed the first one, this is a lot of the same stuff, but bigger. Lauren Graham is gone as the love interest and Willie, Billy Bob, seems like he has continued right on drinking since the last movie. He looks wasted away and almost skin and bones.
The movie picks up about ten years later after the last one and we find Willie still depressed and trying to commit suicide in a shitty apartment when the kid, Thurman Merman, knocks on his door bringing him his mail and a package. Thurman is now grown up and socially awkward sees Willie hanging himself and determines he is playing a game or something, doesn't try to stop him. The package is from Marcus Skidmore, his sidekick elf, to WIllie's Santa impersonation. He has sent him some money and invited him to come to Chicago to steal from a charity. Willie has more honor than that, but he finds out the true master running the operation is his long lost mother and he feels obligated to stick around and help.
The dirty shenanigans continue with Willie saving the day when Marcus can't seal the deal with a security guard that likes herself a dirty man, which of course Willie finds ways to make sex acts dirtier than they have to be. He also almost finds love in the target they are trying to steal from. He finds out she is in a loveless marriage and therefore implants himself in as a disposable whore for the lady which at first she acts disgusted by him, but then comes around and uses him more than one time.
The surprise actor in this one is Kathy Bates as Willie's mom and we find out she can do nasty and gross as good as Billie Bob. She expertly cons him into going along with the con and opening the safe, and all would have probably worked out except for ole Thurman Merman coming through and giving Willie a touch of heart and just finding his own way of getting in the way.
The movie was very cliché, but I found myself laughing out loud several times, so I must say I enjoyed it enough. It is hard to see Willie throughout the movie just looking washed out and half dead, he looks like a genuine alcoholic loser. Having the kid grown up and still somewhat slow/naïve is a great addition to the movie and about the only way to add any humanity to the disgusting and cranky ole Willie.
