Javalina had his third track meet of the season and this one was a mess as far as disorganized and nobody seeming to be in charge. I was in a hurry since I was late to the first meet, and again he told us iit started at 6:00pm, but this time he sent us a copy of what the whiteboard said and under track events start at 6:00, it said field events start at 5:30pm. Burger Stadium is the stadium we have been to the most. It is where Boy used to do the last part of his Marathon kids and Javalina played 3-4 games on the various fields there. I honestly had not noticed it is set up with a discus and shotput ring along the outside of the main football field.
I say disorganized because we got there before our son's school and a couple of the other schools were already there. The one that bugged me was Small ISD because they were sort of hogging the shotput ring. Bad enough our boys came in late, they then could not properly stretch and warm-up. Meanwhile, the kids from that school got their practice shots measured and generally threw until they
tired their arms How is it fair that our boys got a total of three shots out of the ring while Small ISD pretty much had a party up there.
I also don't want to be the parent that takes over to ensure my kid is not being cheated, but it sure felt that should happen. One of the moms, I'm sure from the same Small ISD got herself out there and before long she was measuring the distance thrown by everyone. She had one cup and she would move it around to wherever the ball landed, then the one judge would measure, with her help. I was tempted to get involved, but I don't want to be that parent.
Javalina was mad at himself. He said he threw 29ft, very close to 30ft, based on the lines on the practice field at home, but this wasn't a friendly place to improve so much. Last week he had thrown for 27ft and a couple inches, he did very solid work, considering he has only practiced a few times.
The weather was a total opposite from the weekend. During the weekend tournament it was cold and the wind was blowing chilly. Yesterday, it was in the 80's and we were sweating like cows out there. But still, we were all together like a family cheering on our little Javalina.
