It is that time of year for Boy. Another semester about wrapped up, just a couple more tests to go and then he has a month to reflex and think about what he learned, or sleep late and play video games all day long. Because he changed his degree he is still going to be in school for another year or so, which is fine, but he is starting to cost me money. The best news I heard from him this week is that his boss wants him making himself available to work more hours during the Christmas break. I think this is great. Normally, he only works on the weekends and what he earns is for his spending and going out. Since he is off for the next five weeks, he has a great opportunity to work a lot of extra hours. He is starting this week off right with two double shifts for the release of Rogue One, the new Star Wars movie. He works at Alamo Drafthouse, as I have mentioned. We won't get free tickets to the Star Wars movie for a couple weeks, they have a rule that he can get free tickets, but only to movies that have been out at least two weeks.
I did like him telling me that he had applied for three internships at Silicon Labs here in town. I find this exciting because they are one of our customers, so it would be cool if he ends up working there and we get to do work with each other. Doing internships for a semiconductor company sets him up for working in the field and although it can be tough with the constant layoffs always looming in the background, it can also be very lucrative, and this is one field where pay is more than normal.
Before he can do whatever he feels like, he does have to get through the final exams though. He bugged me this weekend because it was his friend's birthday and they spent the whole weekend celebrating. That is great, but I am sure he could have helped himself reviewing a little more. Instead, he came in Sunday night and went straight to bed, leaving all our guns laid out on the floor by the entrance. When I yelled at him "what the hell!?!?" He said he needed to clean them, but he needed to go to sleep for an exam at eight in the morning on Monday.
He went for his Monday exam, then he came home and slept. I thought he was going to spend Monday studying for the next exam, but no. They called him from the card shop and some new Pokémon cards or some such shit came in and he had to go pick them up. I don't care that this is what he does for fun. I care that he is doing fun things when he should be focused on his Exams. Next week, do whatever, this week, there are still classes and stuff to take care of.
