We went and saw Black Panther tonight (Friday), on the late showing at 10:50pm at Alamo Drafthouse. We waited so late to make sure Wife got in town from her work. As is usually the case with Wife, she stayed late and didn't even leave La Pryor until almost 7:00pm. It seems her boss who was not there, set up a suicide prevention speaker to come and talk with the kids and parents through out the day, including an after school session with the parents that got away from them.
While Wife was being a hero down there, we spent the day cleaning, Boy cut the grass after I did a tune up on the mower. Javalina vacuumed, I washed clothes, and took out the trash. Anything to make Wife's time here more relaxed. Anyways, she showed up around 10:15pm and the movie was supposed to start at 10:50pm. We got in the theater right as they turned down the lights. Another minute and they might not have let us sit.
Black Panther has showed up in previous Marvel movies and he is interesting, this movie kind of gave us his background to tell us what makes him special. According to the movie, Wakanda, the country where Black Panther comes from is the site where a meteor containing Vibranium, which is the hardest metal in the universe. The movie picks up in time where T'Challa is to become king of Wakanda after his father died in the last Marvel movie. The dad was talking in front of the United Nations when they were attacked and he was killed. This set off a chain reaction where Black Panther got involved with Captain America and the gang. We are taken through a flashback to see a spy in the US get killed for betraying his country. This spy had a kid who becomes Kilmonger and because he is a descendent of the country of Wakanda he shows up and wants to fight the new king, who has to accept any challenge as the new king.
I don't want to give any plot points away, but prior to this there is a heist they must get involved in to get a huge chunk of their Vibranium metal back from a bad guy who seems to kill for fun. This just seems to be a good excuse to see Black Panther in action. There is a pretty good fight sequence followed by a high speed chase. They catch the bad guy, who is just a side distraction to get the now grown up spy's kid, Kilmonger, access to the country of Wakanda, complete with appreciation and even some loyalty from one of the "states leaders".
There is a lot of stuff going on and some pretty advanced technology, all home grown, not from another world like Thor, and his home planet, but from our own planet. The movie was very good, but not what I expected. It was still good and I never got a chance to get drowsy or fall asleep.
