Master of None is a show focused on the life of Dev, who is played by Aziz Ansari. He is a pretty upbeat guy who enjoys a nice life with friends and family. His Achilles heel seems to be meeting the right girl for him. His parents, coincidentally played by his real life parents, have tried setting him up with Indian girls, he is constantly on dating websites, is not shy and even tries picking them up wherever he may be.
The first episode for the second season was awesome, it was set in black and white, he has gone to Italy and he is learning how to make pasta from an old grandma, in a small town. He is tempted by the tranquility and peace to stay there, but eventually the big city calls. Some of the other episodes were really good, such as the one where the story randomly picks up with random people who are going to be in the same movie as Dev and his friends are later that night. We get to know a whole group of taxi cab drivers, a deaf couple, random girls, and some doormen. Later that night, as the episode is about to end, the camera is panning across and all the people we saw are mixed into the audience. I thought that was very clever.
I didn't like that they spent too many episodes trying to match him with the Italian girl, pretty but we know she is taken from the first episode. There is some uncomfortable sleepovers and dancing that wouldn't really happen if they had the attraction for each other in real life. I know that for the show it is better if Dev is single, but this seemed to be going nowhere yet about three episodes were spent on this.
I liked the flashbacks, specially when he discovers his love of bacon, even though he is muslim. I also liked the whole episode dedicated to Denise, his lesbian friend, we see they have known each other since they were about 11-12 years old. Dev goes to their house every Thanksgiving because he loves to eat and his parents not so much.
I finally also didn't like that they made Chef Jeff a perv, they left that story line just dangling and Dev looked kind of like a wimp backing up from somebody who had been providing him some good opportunities. It was just a shitty situation, I didn't like it, but overall, I hope it comes back quickly for a third season.
