This past weekend, we went for a short drive Sunday. Wife had worked Saturday finishing all her certifications (finally) to drive the bus on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so we finally had some freedom on Sunday. She keeps mentioning this "Easton Park", which is to be a huge new community where William Cannon currently ends on the east side by Mckinney Falls State Park.
This community will have over 5000 new homes, retail space amounting to over 2,000,000 square feet (Southpark Meadows has 1,500,000 square feet for comparison), four pool areas, and even a man made lazy river, I assume like at Schlitterbahn. The realtor we talked to said it would be the Circle C of the east. Houses are going to go from $200,000s to well over $800,000s.
It was slightly disappointing as it had been awhile since we ventured out in that direction and although a lot of the roads are printed, none of the houses are started yet. There were a few model homes next door for a KB home community, but the realtor said they are not part of this Easton Park community, so even if we bought with them, we would not have access to their amenities, such as the pools.
I hate to admit that I really loved the model homes. When we were looking for our current house, we were coming from a 1300 square foot home and I wanted space. Our current home has almost 4000 square feet, and for a while it was perfect. When my brother lived with us and paid rent, Boy lived in his room, and Chubs also had a room. Nowadays, our house feels empty most of the time. Boy is in an apartment in San Marcos during the week, my brother went back home, it's just Chubs in his room, and Wife in ours during the week. I am thinking we need to readjust our home needs.
As the realtor was saying, priorities have changed, they are not just building large boxes as homes. Smaller rooms are being used in the bedrooms and more emphasis is going to the rooms where the action happens, more storage options as well. The kitchens were beautiful, with these large islands and jumbo chunks of granite or stone. There were double or triple the amount of cupboards and drawers to put stuff away. The back yards were tiny, but I have never enjoyed caring for the yard, and I will not get another pool. Hot tub yes, pool never again.
So here we are, again. The prospect of moving is still far in the distance, but I do know that I loved some of these model homes. Maybe a house with 4 bedrooms, master down, with a view of downtown, three car garage. We'll see, if I can convert dream to reality.
